Back in my early 20s I thought I was the shit for drinking MGD while my friends sucked down Coors light. To me I was drinking real beer while their's was water. I was no naive.

Perception is reality. We perceive them mindless sheep led astray by marketing. Some fit this bill, but most likely they simply drink what they like. You know when you're in a restaurant and order a Coke, the waitress says, "We serve Pepsi products, it that ok?" Imagine that exchange happening with BMC. These beer drinkers often perceive us as chasing the latest fad. Some definitely fit this bill, but many of us simply drink what we like. If drinking what I like makes me a snob, so be it.

this is true over here in the u.s. adverts run rampant. The big three have an almost bottomless supply of marketing money to promote so that a lot of people simply don't know that other alternatives exist. The salesman from duquesne i know was just telling me how hard it is to get themselves out there during football season or when bmc releases 36 packs they don't even bother sampling. Now with the big breweries buying smaller craft outfits like goose island, and creating in house brands such as blue moon or shock top and with miller pretty much running leinenkugles it makes it all the much harder. Not to mention strohs, schlitz, old milw. and all of pabst brewing's acquisitions being contract brewed by miller now as well. Its all a huge grey area anymore with mergers and whatnot that a lot of people are just ill informed more than being simply snobish about their beer choices

I work at a liquor store where rednecks argue about bud light vs. bud heavy, coors vs. busch, bmc to high gravity. It's funny and pathetic at the same time.

Both were on tap. And yes it was $5 for a Stella and $2 for a PBR.

I work in the restaurant biz, and more than once when i read off our short list of bottled beer people say "no thanks, I only drink bud light (or some other BMC)" our beer list is nothing to shake a stick at, bud still. Off topic, it really grinds my gears when a costumer orders a coors light with a glass of ice. Like, whats the point?

His point was that cruises are the Coors Light of travel experiences.

Perceived lower class is only one type of snobbery. Thinking your Bud is real man's beer compared to those weird, fancy and "pretentious" craft beers is also snobbery, and is as bad as the first kind.

The whole thread makes me wonder why this is called "Beer Advocate" , post after post saying "how clever I am for drinking craft " and deriding the choice of those who actually prefer more mainstream offerings. Why shouldn't they? We weren't all made the same.I detest melons, my wife loves them.Is one of us wrong or lacking taste?

I know people that will only drink Coors Light. Nothing else. Fine and dandy. I like AALs plus "craft". Lite beer is not my thang, but I couldn't care less what you drink.

Coors Light and Bud Light are the exact same beer. I don't care what anybody says. If not exactly the same, close to the point where you could easily pour one into the other's can and hand it to somebody and they wouldn't notice anything was amiss.

Miller Lite at least has a *bit* more flavor.

My friend who only drinks Coors Light did not realize the keg at our fantasy football draft last year was Bud Light. He thought it was Coors Lt and could not tell the difference. Of course, even after that he still will only drink Coors Lt.

Edit: pretty much the one time a year that I drink BMC and I don't bitch about it BTW (unlike the other guys who would refuse to drink craft beer)

Alex, I must respectfully beg to differ. Coors Lite tastes nothing like Bud Lite tastes nothing like Keystone. I don't care for "Lite" beer, but even my unsophisticated palate can tell the difference. And yeah I agree Miller Lite is better than the others.

If the guy I mentioned above, who drinks nothing but Coors Light (sometimes many, many of them) could not tell the difference, I think it's safe to say that they at least taste similar. ^^^^

I like Budweiser. Yes, I said it. But Budweiser Light is one horrible beer, IMHO. How it became #1 is anybody's guess. I can drink Miller lite, but the Bud version is just plain bad.

When Bud Lite first came out, it was called "Budweiser Light". The can looked similar to the regular Bud can, with a little more silver than white. It was in my can collection. If my house hadn't of burned down, I'd show y'all. I had some really cool cans. Billy beer can survived though!

As a young lad in my 20's I was working on the chain gang and we were clearing out some untouched pristine right-of-way. I came across a Brown Derby can that was protected from the elements, and it sent me on my way to becoming a can collector. We also tore down a house built in the 50's, probably, and I found a Jax and a Stag can in between the studs. No doubt left by some thirsty carpenters. Beer culture is every bit as cool as the beer itself.
