just took a gravity sample from a hoppy red ale i brewed last week and all is well in terms of that but what is that brown flakey stuff floating on top? yeast? ive never seen that before in a beer ive brewed. i run my wort through a 300 micron filter before dumping into the fermenter. beer tasted great already. here was the grain and hop bill just in case:

    8# 2 row
    1# munich light
    1# caramunich III
    .75# crystal 60
    .75# crystal 120
    1# flaked barley
    .5# victory

    1 oz chinook@ 60
    .5 oz centennial and .5 oz cascade @ 15

What yeast did you use and have you ever used it before?

Some yeast will leave "rafts" floating on top, but that is substantially more than I have ever seen.

Looks like yeast and bits of krausen to me.

That's just yeast colonies, plain and simple. Very normal.

Re-reading your post, I noticed you only brewed this beer a week ago. Nothing to worry about...yeast and krausen.
