So among beers active or retired what are the highest rated average you have seen currently? Let us pick beers with atleast 50 reviews to exclude some of the outliers. Feel free to comment on other helpful constraints.

    I got the following:
    Kbbs 4.86
    Mornin delight 4.8
    Bcbs rare 4.79

Would love folks to chime in. Eventually I would like to compile a list of the top overall 100 beers both retired and active since the bros are interested in that and some of us are.

Here's a suggestion. You can use something like Wayback Machine (http://web.archive.org) to get snapshots in time of BA's beer ratings. I'm not sure when they started to actually rank beers with numerical values we see today, but I was able to access a BA page from 2001. Just by randomly checking other snapshots, I did see rankings in 2005 when Westy #12 was #1 with a score of 4.60.

This will give trends and overall rankings over time because the actual scores/formulas to calculate those scores may have changed since inception.

Look at you avatar. Is this this a joke?

In all seriousness, the highest rated beer on BA looks like shit, and is very, VERY good. But by no means belongs there. Just like...my...opinion MEEEAN!

J Wakefield's pfdf berliner has a 4.84. It's "retired" and is listed under CCB since it was a pilot batch.

I had my first Heady Topper the other day. It was really, really good. But #1 rated beer? I don't know about that.

It really is a non-issue. It's a choice of non representative beers made by a non representative group of people.

One can ask what is the highest rated beer from the sample at hand and it is still a meaningful question for that sample of beers and that group of people.

I am American. I don't give a flying fuck what beers people of this world like among a sample of the world. I care about what awesome beers from America(and Belgium), people from America make (intentionally facetious given the gent's response:wink: ).

Some super rare IPA or Sake-barrel-aged 20% imperial stout, I'd imagine.

No, really, you don't like Heady? Thanks for letting us know, there might be someone who joined ten minutes ago who wasn't aware:wink: Although you seem to be weakening in your dismissal of its popular appeal. Two "very's", one actually capitalized. Wooaaaaahhhhh.

Seriously though, I understand that there are some folks for whom the look of a beer highly affects the flavors perceived. I don't know anyone like that, and I am sure glad I am not like that, but I know it's true.

Out of curiousity is it just for IIPA, or does your bent prevent you from liking whole style ranges like Hefe's and Wild Ales?
