Came here to post exactly this. Someone came over once with a 4pk of it, very excited about it... I didn't have the heart to tell him it was rubbish. Now I have 4 of them and I don't know what to do with them all.

This thread ends with Kentucky bourbon barrel ale. That thing tastes like carbonated bourbon. Awful.

Black Gold from Full Sail. I like my beers hot but man that one is barely any beer n all whisky. Even after a year plus in it, I might as well of been drinking bourbon straight with a shot of beer on the side

I agree but damn it's so good fresh why age it? Cafe Royal uses the second running of the BB Porter barrels and came out almost more Bourbon forward although this years batch was a little disappointing.

The list helps - I've actually tried a number of those and Backwoods & Alewerks BBP are favorites. I have 2010 Ivan & Lunker (both this years and last) in the cellar and haven't gotten to them yet - I guess it's time to break them out. Agree with the 2009 BCBS being the hottest but the bombers are so good right now. I'll have to investigate the other suggestions, thanks.

I know a place that gets it regularly in their growler station. I also know that beer's reputation. However...
I keep thinking it would be cool to have the guy put like 10% of that beer in my growler of Stone Imperial Stout, and see how it goes. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but the devil still sits on my shoulder whispering in my ear .

My guess is wild batch variation. I had it a few years ago.

For me it was Widmer Brrrrrbon '11. It was all bourbon, but not in a good way. I'm a big brown spirits drinker, and this just tasted like bourbon from a plastic jug that had been mixed with a cheap beer to make the boilermaker from hell.

I love this post. I have been trying many barrel aged beers lately. I really liked Backwoods Bastard and BCBS. I don't know if it is because they are local and fresh, but Red Brick brewery in Atlanta has two of the most "bourbon forward" beers I've tried: Red Brick The Lost Years and Red Brick 17th anniversary. They both drink like bourbon without the sting.

FW Double Double Barrel Ale. I thought I had accidentally bought a fifth of bourbon. It was good, bet VERY barrel forward.

Just had a bottle last night...thought the nose was really hot, but I'd still prolly take BCBS on taste.

Ha! I was just about to comment that no one had mentioned Dragon's Milk yet.
Also worth mentioning is Fegley's BA Insidious.
