Lots of interesting responses to this post. Thanks everyone.

-Some responses were what we craft drinkers know are hyped beers through marketing and then end up sucking (Bud Light, Miller Light, Heinie, Stella).
-Some responses were the lagers that craft drinkers love and drink lots of such as Prima Pils and Celebrator
-Some responses were actual one-off lagers that made a big impression on the craft world
-Some responses were much coveted selections lager lovers search out on a regular basis (but aren't necessarily readily available).

I would imagine if someone started a post titled "What is the most hyped ale?" You'd have much more clear cut answers (be it Westy, Dark Lord, Pliny, etc., etc. There would be debate obviously, but the responses would all generally surround some sort of "whale" that's listed in the Trading forum regularly).

As someone that absolutely loves lagers I now am happy that I have a bunch of interesting things to search out.

    Thanks again everyone.

That I think could be the winner. It was the only pils to be in the old top 100 IIRC. I was lucky enough to try it on a trip to SF and while it was excellent, I didn't cream my jeans or anything. Definitely a great beer, but I think the limited availability inflated those ratings a bit. I know...shocker

It's retired, but you can still find it around but Boulevard Seeyoulator Dopplebock is awesome.

Zoigl should be. Rare as hen's teeth, as delicious as god's sweat.

+1,000, that is such a delicious beer, it is probably the only Pilsner I'll ever trade for.

I have a lead on a possible trade for it once the Moonlight brew pub opens. I'm crossing my fingers (and toes). So how do you rank it against the other great pils' we can get in our area.

In the UK, a few years back it was Stella Artois and Kronenburg. Now a lot of 'exotic' Asian lagers are being hyped up.

Read your blog on Zoigl. You really should come off the fence and tell us what you think of it

I've never heard of anyone having to chase lagers, but Prima and Dortmunder are the best I can get. Shift is also worth a try too. Most brewers put their efforts into IPA's and Stouts, that's where the money is, the time and effort making a great Lager would make you a broke brewer, and no one would really care. It's a difficult style to make at a world world class level and the profits aren't there. Extreme IPA's and BA Stouts are where the money is.

I agree on the production comments. You must not know anyone who has traveled to Germany or the Czech Republic to seek out lagers.

Yesterday at Bells, the first beer I tried was the smoked Vienna Lager, over all of the IPAs and big Stouts on the board.

Edit - Quiannanon Falls lager is very good. With the new brewhouse comming on line, I hope they make this in quantity.
