over the past 7 months I have managed to build a pretty good beer cellar. While I have some nice rare and hard to find beers, I am in search of the perfect celebration beer. I will be reaching a career goal at some point this year and would like to be able to crack open 1 or 2 beers (maybe more) that are worthy of such an occasion.

What do you recommend? My favorite styles of beer are BBA stouts and DIPAs. I like most types of beers though except wheats and sours.

No single style fits that bill enough for me to have a recommendation. When I'm in the mood for a celebration I really only just survey the stuff I've got on hand (or could buy at the store) and pick something that fits my mood at the time. On the other hand, based on something pointed out to me a few years back by someone else on this site, I now save my special beers to use when I feel like turning a poor day into a special one and one worth celebrating.

Hope you soon enjoy what you wind up picking!

Ayinger Celebrator... You kind of have to

In all seriousness I'd go with something like a BA stout or barleywine. I usually dip into my firestone collection for special occasions. Once I'm done with finals this quarter I'm going to have their 17th anniversary blend... Already marked on the calendar

We find that when we save a special beer for a special occasion or date, it inappropriately builds expectations for said beer. If it's some coveted whale that you think will be amazing, it might let you down. To avoid that, we have been trying to wait for the moment, and see what strikes us at that time. Even if it is something random or less rare, you will be satisfied because that's what you were in the mood for. Congratulations on reaching you goal!!

I say pick your highest rated beer or really splurge in something like Utopias or Westy 12. Deus or anything by Cantillon would also be good as they seem decadent.

Of course, in my case, an undertaking like that would require the extensive help of a good friend, who's beer of choice is Miller High Life

What rare beers do you already have in your cellar?
What BA stouts and DIPA's do you really want to try?

I would go with Budweiser. It's a perfect macro beer for almost any occasion!

Rochefort 10 is my go to celebratory beer. For really big stuff (like when I graduate from law school in a few months), I have some bottles of Cantillon I'm slowly working my way through. St. Lamvinus is up next.

A nice fancy Berliner Weiss should do the trick - possibly a de Garde?

Personally, a celebration beer for me would almost always be a BA stout, since that's one of my favorite styles, and they tend to be harder to get (and more decadent) than the majority of beers.

A celebration beer for me, therefore, would be something like Bourbon County Rare (any BCBS variant would do, but if it's a big occasion, the biggest of them all would be best!). I saw someone else mention Utopias, and that seems like a good call as well. Honestly, anything you really enjoy would fit the bill--If I were going the DIPA route, I'd have an Abrasive, Permanent Funeral or possibly Navaja; if you can grab a Heady Topper, that would obviously work too.

If we're taking one-beer answers, though, I'm going with Rare. I mean, it's got rare in the title, so it's gotta be made for celebrations! SN Celebration would be a good answer too, except that the fresh hoppy taste in that beer would be long gone by the time you drank it.
