So I know this isn't a universally recognized "style" but I think there's enough of them to warrant a thread. What I mean by "Belgian stout" is a stout/porter brewed with some sort of Belgian yeast, not just stouts from Belgium.

I vote for Boulevard Imperial Stout, followed by Boulevard Dark Truth. Allagash Black is nice too.

Not a ton of examples out there, but both that you mention crush it.

If you're going to mention Allagash Black, might as well throw their Boubon Black up there as well.

Madrugada Obscura is a sour, Sour Dark Ale. Allagash Black is a BSDA. Boulevard Dark Truth is a good example (boarder line BSDA), BUT I think the reason there's no true Belgian Stout is because once it's Belgian and dark...it's a BDA or BSDA. Weyerbacher Tiny is very good, good priced and under-rated.

I'm partial to Sam Adam's Thirteenth Hour. Initially, I thought it was average at best. But after aging for only 6 months at room temperature, its a bit more mellow with a subtle roasted, smokey finish.

If the brewers themselves call them stouts and brew them as stouts, then they are stouts. BSDA has always been an overly broad bullshit term anyway. I've seen brewers refer to their BSDA as a dark ale, a dark triple, and a barleywine all on the same label, for the same beer.

How about one from Belgium? Struise Black Albert is absolutely incredible, as are all the variations I've had: S.H.I.T., Cuvée Delphine, Blackberry Albert.

Black Albert is just an incredible blend of big, bold imperial stout and BSDA characteristics. Throw in the most subtle 13% alcohol and you've got quite an amazing stout. The fact that they do so many wonderful barrel aging and other projects to it only makes it more awesome.

    Allagash Black, for sure.

Ommegang's had one or two, too, but I didn't enjoy them as much.

Not usually a fan of stouts with Belgian yeasts but Anchorage darkest hour is on a whole other level.

    Black Albert is terrific.

Weyerbacher tiny is solid and very reasonably priced. Not a fan of allagash black.

Boulevard Dark Truth gets my vote, I've got a bottle of their Imperial Stout that I'm looking forward to trying as well.

Their Imperial Stout is good, but I thought Dark Truth was better. I did have it (Dark Truth) in a 12 oz. vs 750 mL.
