Last Saturday I did a Bourbon County tasting at Cigar City Brewpub and got to try all the variants (BCBS, Coffee, Bramble Rye, Cherry Rye, Vanilla, Rare, etc.). I brought the Vanilla and was waiting to try it for months after I had received it in a trade. After much analysis, I was most impressed with the Cherry Rye... I mean it was just straight up heaven on the palate with the cherry with notes of spicy cinnamon from the rye whiskey barrels.

What do you think was your favorite one and why? Cheers!

I sadly never got ahold of vanilla or the cherry (it hurts never having those two) but in all honesty and as GREAT as they all have been, bourbon county is the best of the group. It is however best around 3 years of age.

The bramble was my least favorite (still very good). And I guess Rare is the second best of the group. I would like to review that multiple times with different age on it. but due to cost and availability I don't see being able to do that one.

still haven't had rare, bramble or vanilla. between regular bourbon county, cherry rye and coffee i'd say cherry rye.

    Rare

So decadent, it even had more vanilla than Vanilla. I think I would also like 2010 BCBS as well

I still have yet to try Bramble Rye, Cherry Rye, and Vanilla. Rare was amazing, but my favorite has to be Coffee.

BCBS regular is my favorite beer of all time-- based on both taste and availability.

That being said, I've had Cherry and Coffee (both bottled and draft versions) and the Coffee, to me, is quite possibly the perfect barrel-aged stout.

Have had multiple bottles of coffee and cherry this year and I'd rank them like this...
    1. Coffee
    2. Regular
    3. Cherry
I have a rare waiting to be drank so we'll see after that if I change my order.

Those are the only 3 I've had and that is my order of preference as well.

OP I know it wasn't on your list of variants and it is difficult to pick one but I have to throw Baudoinia in there too. It was amazing and perfect.

    1. Rare
    2. Bramble
    3. Cherry
    4. 2009 Bomber Regular
    5. Vanilla
    6. Any other vintage of regular
    7. Any vintage of Coffee

Rare is excellent (duh), but Bramble is just below for me. I like raspberry's better than cherry's though. I just hate coffee.

Of course it's a tie between the two we'll probably never see again-vanilla and rare. I haven't had cherry yet, but I've had all the other bottle variants. Oh well, I guess I can't complain given that I've got a case full of various vintages in the cellar. I mean, vanilla and rare are fantastic, but pain ol bcbs is nothing to scoff at.

I thought this years Coffee was absolutely fantastic when I opened it in February. That would be my favorite and the only one I haven't tried, including the half dozen variants they had at FOBAB, is Rare.

My order, based on tasting all variants side-by side about 2 months ago:

    1. Coffee
    2. Cherry
    3. Rare
    4. Bramble
    5. Vanilla

There was a big difference from the top 3 to the bottom 2. Our bottle of BCBVS had almost no vanilla quality and all 6 of us that were doing the tasting were really disappointed by it. Rare, at one point, was #1 (I had it a year ago and it was amazing. Two months ago, not as much).

That said, I was lucky to try a red wine variant on tap at DLD this year and it crushed all of the above. I would buy it by the gallon the stuff is so good.

You can do some pretty fun things with french presses (or randall jr's) and bourbon county too. One of my friends used a randall jr with a bcbs12 + toasted coconut + chili pepper + vanilla beans. Absolutely ridiculously good.
