Wow. This could be my post verbatim. Man do I miss that Escondidian. Why did they not make that a regular beer?

Either Wookey Jack or SSR for first, and then it's, I dunno (checks list...) Well, it looks like Jumble in the Jungle out of Pizza Port wins third prize, which (if memory serves) just a black version of Carlsbad Raceway.

Surly Blakkr, Legenda Black Jack IPA (Hungarian), and BrewFist Green Petrol (Italian).

I also love Indeed Midnight Ryder, though it's technically a black ale, and Struise S.H.I.T. though it's actually a DIPA blended with an imperial stout.

I guess I can understand how many people don't enjoy this style, but it's one of my absolute favorites. I have been fortunate to have several wonderful examples of the style and not many bad ones. One thing I love about the style is the degree of blending between dark/malty elements and hoppy elements. Some, like Blakkr and Green Petrol, transition effortlessly, blending two styles that seemingly don't go well together. Some, like Black Jack, lead off like a stout and all of a sudden hit you in the mouth with a punch of tropical hops, which is equally awesome.

OP - I am with you on 2 out of 3. Wookey Jack and Dubhe are in my top 3. However, I think ST Iniquity beats out SSR for the third spot. Mind you, SSR is darn good in its own right.
