I've seen some fail threads, but this is near the top.

I'd start off with an XX Ale, then an AK, a Burton, Brown Stout, Old Burton Extra, No. 3, 160/- and finish with Imperial Brown Stout.

Always start with the one you never had before or have had the least.

You're onto something. I like to start my session like my day. Coffeeish stout/porter moving towards IPA/DIPA.

Or a good well made mild. One that tastes better with every extra pint.
Some of these responses amaze me. A session is an epic journey. For an epic journey the Ferrari stays in the garage and the Land Rover comes out.In a drinking session those beers which are intended to be individually savoured are being cruelly misused. They are the Ferraris of the beer world.Other beers are better suited for the long haul.

Last winter I had over about 20 hours my three favorite barleywines. Friday at Free State, Old Backus.
The next afternoon pre-game King Henry and post game Sucaba. Compress that into a few hours and you have it.
