So, I have a friend that is in Michigan around Grand Rapids area and he's going to send me beer. I already told him I want some KBS and Black Note. What other beers are worth trying there that I can't get in Florida? Thanks

I'm partial to anything from Brewery Vivant - I think what they have canned is usually seasonal. But pretty much anything from Michigan is at least average and is probably good to excellent.

Brewery Vivant, Dark Horse, Arcadia all have good beers. I'm not sure if he can get it in Grand Rapids, but Kuhnhenn makes some great beers. Also keep and eye out for KBS in FL, it should hit stores and bars next week!

ditto on the Neo stout from Saugatuck. Just a fantastic original idea for a stout.

Not only that but the flavor profile is spot on...its incredible that all 3 flavors are equal to one another

Founders Red's Rye IPA and Imperial Stout
    Bell's Kalamazoo and Expedition Stouts
any of the Dark Horse stouts
Dark Horse Crooked Tree and Double Crooked Tree
New Holland Dragon's Milk and Mad Hatter

I don't know what you can and can't get in Florida, so you may be able to get those. If you want to go by more localized breweries, I would recommend Dark Horse, Arcadia, Brewery Vivant, and New Holland.

They have a barrel aged version but its extremely hard to come across. Usually on tap for special occasions.

I couldn't agree more with this comment. Dark Horse Plead the Fifth stout is excellent. It can still be found with a little effort. Dark Horse 4 Elf is a great winter warmer but I see very little of it in stores now. Everything they have is fantastic.

Founder's Curmudgeon Ale is due to hit shelves any day now. You may find it in your state but there should be plenty around here very soon. I feel this beer doesn't get the proper respect that it deserves. You can also get a growler fill of Imperial Stout at Founder's right now.

By the way, I don't mean to burst your bubble, but there is a better chance of hell freezing over than your friend finding any loose bottles of KBS or Black Note at this point.

I found myself thinking the same thing about Saugatuck Neapolitan Milk Stout. I kept asking myself if was truly picking up on all three flavors or if I was mind*ucking myself by looking at the pink, brown, white label on the bottle. Regardless, I had this beer with some great bbq and that meal was outstanding.

Would be great in a vanilla ice cream float.
