I am constructing my own stir plate and needed some input on stir bar size. I will be using a 2L flask and will have an 80mm fan in my plate box. Any suggestions or does it really matter?

    Thanks in advance.

The one I bought is about an inch long I think, maybe 1.5". If you got too big of one, I would imagine your stir plate would potentially have a hard time spinning it, the same goes for too small a stir bar. To small being like .25", too large maybe being 3"?

2 inches is a nice size for a stir bar.

I've had the 1.25 inch and the 2 inch. The 2 inch is a bitch to get spinning. wish i hadn't lost my 1.25 inch bar.

Stirstarter has instructions for making your own or buying one of his.

Thanks everyone. I think an 1.5" might be right up my alley.
