I'm heading there for work the weekend of the 15th. Any suggestions for places to hit, other than Epic? I don't really care about visiting Uinta unless there's nothing else to do. I know the laws there are a bit antiquated, but I'm not sure what to expect.
Do check out Uinta... plenty of good stuff there, and great people. I'm a little biased because I lived in SLC for 9 years, 6 of them a mile from Uinta's original brewery. And, yes, there might not be much else to do, beerwise. All beer over 4% ABV must be purchased at the brewery, at a state liquor store (the downtown store on 300E has the best selection) or at a restaurant for on-premise consumption. Coming from most of NC, you will not be overwhelmed by the UT beer scene.. but I find Uinta Labyrinth incredible and Hop Nosh IPA is pretty damn good. SLC's strength is its physical, not cultural, setting. If you like being outdoors, hit the trails up Millcreek or Big Cottonwood Canyons, drive up to Alta for a Sunday brunch on the deck, go fishing in a mountain stream, etc. When you sit down to a beer it will be good, probably better than most would imagine for UT; just don't expect SLC to be Asheville.
RedRock Brewing tends to get overlooked, some pretty great stuff there as well and it's less than a block from Squatters. Uinta has a nice little bottleshop with pretty much all of their current releases. It'll be a better option for you than a liquor store. If your into lagers, Bohemian Brewing makes only "old world lagers". Some pretty unique stuff. If you want a wide range of beers from around the state/region the Bayou, Beerhive & Beer Bar are a good "one stop shop" as far as craft beer bars are concerned.
We get everything by Uinta on draught and/or bottles here, which is why I was going to skip it... but only if there are other places worth hitting as well.
I like Avenues Proper too. It's a little brewpub and a restaurant too (fries are delicious). They tend to brew a lot of different styles, and I've always been pleased with whatever I've ordered. You can also get beer from other local breweries on tap and in bottles. Plus the outdoor seating area is pretty nice. Have a good time!
I doubt you get everything from Uinta... might be some good bottles at the brewery that don't travel far. The same goes for Redrock, Squatters and of course Epic.
Maybe you're right. We get everything they have listed on Beer Advocate though, minus (I think) two which were draught only.
Hi there, I am new here. I am probably doing this wrong(i wasn't able to comment in the trading section), but I was wondering if your Fat Tire Jersey is still available? If so, I would like to work something out. I'm in Mass, so if you want to trade for some northeast microbrews...
