I recently had a bottle share and found it hard to throw away a few prized possessions. After all the chasing I had to do to get a few of these beers I didn't want to just throw them away. I don't have a bar and I didn't want to just have a shelf or box of empties. We do a lot of DIY projects at work and with it being summertime in Chicago someone had suggested we make tiki torches. Being huge into beer I made sure we included a few staples, but, you're going to see a corona (it was shattered off camera after). These are ridiculously easy to make and my dad now asks where the Dark Lord is when he's referring to the tiki. Anyone have ideas for indoor displays if you don't have a bar?
Huh? What to do with empty bottles? Other possibilities: 1. If you live in a state with no deposit law, recycle. 2. If you live in a state with a deposit law, bring them back to the store and get the nickel or dime back.
I use clear packing tape and remove labels and put them into a ring binder with tasting notes. I do the same thing for wine bottles.
i just recycle them. i have to imagine on fridays, the recycling dudes view my bin as a highlight, getting to see all the cool and mysterious things from the week! "oh look, that is aged in bourbon barrells" "he must be on a seasonal kick this week" "look how fresh those ipa dates are" then there are some weeks when i am probably looked at as having a problem, but those usually involve poker night!
^^^^^^^ LOL, I remove the labels from the bottles with the clear tape. I'm sorry I wasn't more clear.
My wife would kill me if I had a display of dead soldiers like that. She (barely) lets me get away with my empty Jeroboam from Ommegang in the den, anything more than that is right out. Most of my empty bombers end up with homebrew in them. Aside from a 12-er or 2 of 12-ozers now and then, cans and small bottles go back for the deposit. (eventually)
The Legendary bottles I hold onto to display in my future theoretical man cave (apartment livin' now). The rest I use for homebrew.
