Hi. What do you do with the little red oxygen tanks we buy at Lowe’s for oxygenating wort?

I have 10 of them. I’ve read that I should not put them in recycling.

    Thanks

I just throw them away in the normal trash.

When completely empty they are disposable. Just toss it in the trash or recycle.
They do not have any particular requirements when empty.

Where did you read an empty can can not be disposed? What are you supposed to do with them? If a vendor sells a tank that has specific disposal requirements, the vendor has to accept the used container as well. Lead acid and rechargeable batteries. Tires. Motor oil. Etc. Not so for 1.4 ounce used oxygen cylinders

Tossing a can of oxygen into the trash that still contains gas is not a good idea though, as a loader, excavator or compactor could pierce the can, cause a spark and possibly create an impressive explosion, if the required air/fuel mixture was correct.

    Cheers

I think the point is that it seems like something that should be recycled rather than sent to a landfill. However, I came across advice, on the internet and therefore unquestionably correct, that recycling centers do not want these.

And if yer worried about pressure, I'm sure they'd make a fine target. Couple of rounds thru them will remove that problem.

After all, hunting season is getting close. Who wouldn't like a fresh deer steak with a nice stout, yeaaaaaaaaaaaah

Save them for your next bonfire... seriously, though, most recyclers won't take anything that contained compressed gas unless you drill an obvious hole in the side of the container. Make sure all O2 is purged before you do this.
