So my wife and I are expecting our first child (a boy!)in the spring and a friend of mine asked me last week at Darkness day if I was going to open any big or rare bottles to celebrate. Honestly, it hadn't crossed my mind until that moment. It's an exciting time and I think I do want to set a few things to the side.

Did anyone crack open some thing special for a birth, wedding, etc? Did you seek out something rare for the occasion or open something on hand?

    Cheers!

I've yet to experience a life moment such as a wedding or child but I do plan on saving a few beers in my cellar for such a moment. BTW congratulations on your first child!

Sounds like a fun idea and all, but having kids will dwarf beer and everything else in your life...Best Thing Ever!

Congrats @dthompson0279 for you and your wife's first child! I've not had a chance to open a rare beer for any such occasion as of your's. Yet, I have never cracked open a rare beer on any special occasion. I drink my rare/one offs on any day of the week. This is because, I don't know for a fact that I will wake up the next morning. I have a faith that I will wake up, but never 100% assured. So, when I get a rare beer it is usually enjoyed immediately.

Wait to crack your special beer for important milestones like when they start sleeping thru the night or complete potty training and you don't have to buy anymore diapers haha. No, its a good idea and as important occasion as any if you have something special set aside.

The day after my son was born, two of our friends came to visit my wife, our new born and I in the hospital (we were there for several nights after the birth). It was mid-March and, at the time, Sam Adams Noble Pils was still a seasonal release. I asked my friend to bring a six pack of it. We drank it from styrofoam cups in the hospital room as nurses came in and out. After seeing my wife in labor for 40 hours, it was one of the most delicious beers I ever had (it was and still is a favorite of mine anyways). Unfortunately and quite unjustly, my wife, who did all the heavy lifting during those 40 hours (not to mention the previous nine months) was unable to drink. I rewarded her with some kick ass wine once she was able to enjoy a drink again.

"celebrated" my 39th birthday with a "bourbon county birthday" with all the variants of years past. Definitely don't feel like celebrating turning 40.

When I bought my first house, I had been saving a bottle of Green Man's Dweller.. For no other reason other than the name, and at the time it was one of the more expensive bottles I had bought at $20.

Pretty good beer, being able to enjoy it in my new home.

I had twin identical boys.. I can't recall cracking anything open due to the chaos that ensued at the time. I do remember enjoying something I felt comforting when I was able to get home, and finally had both of them.

Kids trump beer, atleast in my life.

I'm a farmer, and I just finished harvest on Friday, and I celebrated with a 120 min and a BCBS. I turn 40 in May, and I'm hoping to track down both Heady and Pliny to celebrate with as they're on my bucket list and I've never tried them.

    Congrats and Cheers!

From experience, your better half will want a drink!. What is her favorite, or do you want something out of the ordinary? La Chouffe is a great choice for nurturing and early child development.

Cracked open a few beers I've been waiting on drinking when I just got my job promotion. Made it a week long special with some speedway stout, 120 min, backwoods bastard, bourbon county and year old serpent stout. Next special occasion and my EC12 eclipse will be at the year mark so will open that up more than likely. Special occasions deserve a special beer splurge. Fortunately I usually have something on hand that's been aging.

Just know your "celebration" beer for a child birth may be days or weeks (or whenever you manage to get enough sleep to be out of zombie mode) after the birth. Congratulations though! I'm right there with you again (expecting our second in June).
