The stuff that actually got me was Sam Adams, and it was several of their everyday shelf beers. The first one I remember buying on my own and really liking was Belhaven Scottish Ale.

My dad frequently gave my brother and me a sip of his beer, but the first beer I had myself was as a high school freshman. My then boyfriend, a senior named "Skip" of all things, gave me a can of Bud and the following instructions: "okay, this is going to taste really bad, so hold your nose and pretend that you're out in the desert and really thirsty and just drink it down as fast as you can." I'm happy to be drinking beer that I don't have to do this with now!

Man... well I know that when I was 11 my buddy and I would "barrow" wine coolers from the fridge. After that we would "barrow" ICE (not sure if it was bud or what have you). By the time I was 12 I was drinking a lot, for our group or age at the time. After my buddy left out of state I stopped drinking (he was a bad influence) but probably around 16 or so I started with hard stuff and Guinness. Never liked the bud, coors, millers, pbr, even back then.

Good ol' Pabst Blue Ribbon swiped from my parents' fridge and hidden in my sock drawer for several weeks at age 13 or so. After that, in high school & it was the standard cycle of Busch, Bud, Milwaukee's Best, etc. - even a truly generic beer - white can with black lettering on the front that said simply "Beer". Then I tasted a Cream Ale at a tavern in Colonial Williamsburg and so began a journey towards enlightenment.

I think my first full beer was a Miller High Life out of a can in 1977. Miller was my favorite beer for a short time, but I switched to Genesee Cream Ale. Keep in mind this was about 1978-1981.

The first better beer I ever had was a Sam Adams Boston Lager and I hated it.

The day I turned 18, I was on vacation in England. Legally drank a Heineken at a pub while a local band played.

First sip, Good old bud from my grandmother glass. It was fourth of july and I had a sip by mistake. Hated it.

Flashback around 15 or 16: sneaking off beer from my fathers fridge. Either Heineken, land shark or pacifico.

College Freshmen year: First keg stand with Busch.

14 years old, my first summer job was as a shadow for a special needs (or whatever it's being called these days) child in a day camp as part of a special needs program. one of the other guys (much older then me) who worked in the program had (or presumably, has) a house on the beach and a large boat, at the end of the summer we had a staff BBQ and then we went out to "fish" and one of the other counselors handed me a heineken. i guess it could have been worse, the other beer being drank was coors light.
