James Page IPA I think. At the time the hoppiness disgusted me. Now I can't get enough of that bitter bitter!

I was pretty young, but remember having Obsidian stout on a camping trip during high school. It was a bit bitter and hard for me to drink, but I oddly enjoyed, certainly more than hamms and budweiser.

Two hearted ale was my first followed by Sierra Nevada pale ale.

These are still my personal favorites, and my go to beers if I can't make up my mind.

SA Boston lager. Didn't like it at all. Went straight to SNPA and have been a hop head since.

When I was younger there was just 'good beer' and 'bad beer' :grinning:. So I kind of have to extrapolate the answer a bit.

First 'boutique' beer- Aass Bock, imported by Merchant duVin*, early 80s.
First beer by a small independent American brewer- Anchor Steam, mid 80s.

(*gotta give Charles Finkel his props for being there at the onset of the 'craft' revolution)

1986. Catamount Pale Ale from Vermont. The brewery was taken over by Harpoon in the 1990's.

Not long thereafter - There are a few Pete's Wicked Ale listings on this thread. I had that in the late 1980's too. I drank Sam Adams Boston Lager in the 1980's as well. I have a 25+ year old original Sam Adams pint glass.

I started hitting brew fests in 1993

    Oh look, this thread again.

My first beer was a craft beer... Victory Hop Devil IPA. Hell of a way to start for a newbie.

Sam Adams. I was used to natty light and coors light and my god, that first SA penetrated my taste buds like no other. It must have taken me an hour to finish the damn thing and while it was a "sipper" at the time, I knew I was going to grow into it.

I think Pete's Wicked or Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. The one that got me hooked was Harpoon IPA, though.
