I used to think that and not so sure anymore....nowadays there is good wine being produced for 10-15.00 a bottle.

The first part of your statement? About how Porsche is trying to differentiate itself as a luxury product? Uh, yeah, that is what craft beer is. Limited releases? BA beers? Those are luxury products. You want cheap, you can get SN Torpedo for $14/12pk. If that's still too much, there is a bigger problem.

Bottom line is you think beer is getting too expensive you need to make some financial decisions.

No it absolutely does not, a $20 bottle does not cost 10x more to produce than a $2 bottle, the reason the $20 bottle costs $20 is because the market will support that price. Do not misinterpret what I'm saying, higher quality products DO cost more to produce (Italian leather shoes vs Chinese pleather), but the difference in mark up is not due to the difference in production price. For example a $20 bottle might cost 1.5x or 2x what a $2 bottle costs to produce, but not 10x. Do not fool yourselves, retailers charge the price that the market will support, they'll raise prices to the point that consumers complain, but still purchase, and the cost of producing the product has nothing to do with the market price equilibrium.

It was really good though the Seizoen Bretta was actually better IMO. Weird right?

Living in NY, it is pretty damn hard to find any decent beer for under $10 a six. Most brooklyn stuff and blue point beers that are made within 25 miles of me even cost $9.99 with tax (usually comes to $11 with change).
I wish beers were cheaper but I do understand the cost of transporting, brewing, man power, etc. that comes with making beer.

One odd thing is Long Trail (not including Limbo) and Smuttynose beers are sometimes cheaper than the beers made nearby.

I just walked into a store about an hour ago and saw they had a 6 of Laughing Dog IPA. I have never had this beer, as well as never seen it in the area, and they were charging $19.47 for a 6 of cans. I laughed on my way out the door.

I will never buy a 6 pack that costs more than $9.99.

I will buy a bottle/can to try, but I'll never buy it after that.

And there are good beers being produced for 9.00 for a six pack. As you go up the scale of quality, rarity etc. you get into higher prices. The most expensive beers pale in comparison to the cost (per ounce) of every other type of alcohol's pinnacles

I remember when I could get the non Narragansett Lager/Lite beers for 7.99 but it seems they are all over 8 bucks now and are as high as 8.99 (Dels Shandy.) Heck, I remember getting a sixer of Long Trail at this one store for 7.49 3 years ago and it was raised to 7.99 a few years later and now its 8.49. Soon we'll be at 9.99 Long Trail and a few years ago that would seem absurd. Im not counting Limbo of course which is obviously more expensive.

I can get good quality fresh local IPAs (cans or bottles) for $8 or $9. Some of you are paying too much for beer.

Sure, prices are on the rise, but the $0.89/oz. that the OP is claiming is the "norm" now, is way too high.

You said "The retail price of consumer products has nothing to do with how much they cost to make." This is a FALSE statement .....

Bombers in general are a ripoff. 8.99 might seem like a cheap bomber but that's about 30 bucks if it were a six pack.
But you can't get a 6 pack of Dan'l Webster or Enjoy By IPA. I've gotten way better at saving bombers though, and now that I can homebrew Berliners the savings are going to roll in.

Beer is also cheaper in the PNW than probably anywhere except Wisconsin.
But yeah there is great beer out there for for great prices. You just have to know where to look and what to look for. Drinking a 12oz bottle of Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous right now that cost less than $1.50. Gotta love the Stone mixed packs.

I've seen breweries put a beer in a 6 pack and charge $9 for it and then put the same exact beer in a bomber and charge the same $9..does the increased price per oz have anything to do with how much the beer cost to produce?

Oh wait, there really are still people out there who pay $30+ for a 750ml, then bitch that it's more expensive than the $7.99 6pk of 12 ozers they can also get? Maybe it's time for extreme frugalists to stop buying the "expensive and limited" releases that many consider as being the best EVAR?
