The interesting thing is the brewer he obviously supports based upon his avatar was lawyer-ing up on Brooklyn beer a while back about bottle similarities (despite NB blatantly taking the westmalle bottle design). I guess you can employ big business tactics so long as you are employee owned and wind powered.

it is just as good, if not better this year. central waters bourbon barrel stout is a good affordable BA stout that will get lots of my attention when it hits for me.

since budweiser was the king of beers and now ab-inbev owns GI, I think BCBS should be crowned king of beers.

This! Everyone here acts like BCBS is going down the shit hole. Bunch of fair weather GI fans if you ask me.

i mean its not really an issue if bcbs quality suffers.....as a craft beer enthusiast you should be able to find equivalent or superior stouts that already exist (some may or may not be barrel aged like bcbs) or that will be brewed in the future....abyss, darkness, bb batch 9k, berserker, ba sexual chocolate, kbs, uncle jacobs, bbpt5, hunahpu at the barrel aged variants, etc., etc., and not just rely on one beer. Its a great beer, but imo ive had better barrel aged stouts that were more complex and that I thought were superior beers to bcbs. I can definitely say its not the best barrel aged stout thats brewed for sure, but based on the fact that it comes out every year, and this year to a degree has been more readily available, that weighs into the equation as well.

No matter what we think of AB. BCBS still is good. I would think InBev did not buy GI to wreck it. The growth in beer is in Micros. Why buy a Micro and then screwed it up.

The Parabola and the Central Waters are good.

With Laffler leaving GI, I am a little concerned about how the barrel aged beers will turn out in the years to come. I like the Shipwrecked Porter from Arcadia, I do understand the style change but still a very good beer. BCS and the variants are my favorite beers so this is a tough call. I will continue to drink BCS as long as the quality is still there.

I love this thread. Kudos to splitgrin for starting it.

I agree with you completely. GI BCBS died the second ABinbev bought it. Even if it tastes the same I will never buy it. I understand many people feel differently, and that's cool, but for me I just can't support Abinbev.

    My replacement is KBS.

Founders is tripling their KBS batch next year and vowed to have better distribution. This may sound crazy, but I wouldn't be surprised to see KBS sit on the shelves for a few days at some places.

I hope KBS does increase their batch and distribution because I would pick it up in a heartbeat

I love BA Shipwreck. Does anyone know if they released any in 2012? I know there were two releases in 2011 - early in the year (Jan/Feb) and later in the year (Oct/Nov).

I haven't tried this year's yet, but I'm keeping my eye out for it. I like the Deschutes Black Butte XXIV and Fullsail puts out a pretty great bourbon-barrel. I'd have to have a flight to remember all the similarities and differences. I love Abyss, but I know that's more chocolate, less coffee...

Maybe the "end of the world" that the Mayans were predicting was actually the end of BCBS! The question of replacement will be relevant when it is no longer made. Until then...
