I had some left over high gravity yeast starter so for shits and giggles I filled a 750ml ball jar half with sweet cider and toped it off with cab-wine must and cane sugar. My question is what would this fall under? is it mead? is it melomel? pyment? anyone ever herd of this. btw I racked it off and it looks great rosey and very dry gonna let it sit for some time before I bottle.

Seeing as you didnt list honey as an ingredient, it wouldnt fall under any of the terms you listed.

That was the first thing that came to mind, but I felt guilty saying it, seeing as how I have two blends of soured Barleywine, English Mild and Milk stout aging on peaches with different bug blends.

No honey? Not a mead. Mixed fruit wine. Enjoy it.

in the history of everything(going back as long as brewing) I have to think someone somewhere had some cider and grapes and not enough of either to do cider or a wine and why waste? so... I'm sure I'm not the first. and lets just say I was to use honey would that nail it down as a mead? or what?

If you had honey I think it might fall into a category between a Cyser (mix of mead and cider) and a Pyment (mix of mead and grapes)... check out the BJCP guidelines on it.

Also, when I said a mess before I did not mean it wont be good, its just what popped in my mind when I first read it.
