I am looking to complete a vertical form 2002 to 2012 and it made me think. When did the bigfoot first come out?

Do any of you have bottles with pictures to prove it. I want to see :grinning:

It took Gold at the 1987 GABF. So sometime before that.

I think I saw in the recent thread about the barrel-aged version (canceled for 2012) that 2013 would be its 30th anniversary. So that would make it 1983.

1983? Wow. We didn't get it in the NYC area until very late in the decade, and even at that time it really made an impression. Back in '83 it must've been like- you know the Monty Python sketch where they describe Tschaikovsky's naught bits as being extremely naughty for their time?- it must've been the beer version of that, extremely naughty for its time. The original beer ****, and still getting 'em off to this day.

So if it is 83, anyone with a bottle we all could see?

No need for Bill on this one. The 2008 edition was the 25th anniversary (special label and all), so that would make 1983 the first version.

EDIT: Looks like I'm just confirming what draheim said ... but what's this about -bal Bigfoot NOT coming this year? I missed that completely!!!

Can't find the thread right now, but about a week or two ago they announced they didn't have enough to go to market or something to that effect so won't be releasing it this year. :slight_frown: I think the thread might have been deleted once it was no longer a "new release"...

    EDIT: Start reading here

If you're looking for a bottle that says 1983 on the label I think you'll be disappointed. SN didn't start "vintage dating" until just a few years ago.

Define a few years ago. I've had as old as 2002 and, while the label didn't show the vintage, the cap did.

Holy crap! Craft beer has been around since 1983?!

I suspected this was someone from the Midwest/East Coast :grinning: (actually, not sure if you're being facetious). I've got at least a couple breweries just down the road that are older than that.

Oh, no doubt -- I was just being facetious to the oft expressed attitude that craft brewing started around the turn of the century! :grinning:

I've actually never heard anyone suggest that... you mean 21st century?
