Out of curiosity, I just looked over all my beersmith files since 2009. In the last 6 years, I brewed 56 batches of beer using 32 different yeast strains. I was sort of impressed with this diversity.

Ignoring differences among manufacturers, the most common strains were

    American Ale Styles:
    Chico/WLP001/1056/S05 -- 6 batches
    WY1272 -- 2 batches

    English Ale Styles
    Nottingham - 3 batches
    S-04 - 3 batches
    West Yorkshire -- 3 batches
    Fullers WY1968/WLP002 --2 batches
    Scottish/Edinburgh - 2 batches
    Windsor - 2 batches

    Belgian Styles

    Roseleare blend -3 batches
    Westmalle (WLP530, WY 3787) -3 batches
    DuPoint - 2 batches
    Wit WLP400 - 2 batches

    German Ale
    Kolsch - 2 batches

    Lagers
    SanFrancisco/California Lager - 3 batches
    Saflager 34/70 -- 2 batches

    The rest were one-timers.

Without doing the research, I'd have to say my top 4 in recent years would be Wyeast 1968/WLP002, Chico, Wyeast 3724, and Wyeast 2001, roughly in that order.

WLP007 when I want to suppress the hops, WLP090 when I want them to sing like a kid trying out for American Idol.

By far US-05 and closest second is S-04. I've recently used Wyeast 1728 for an 80 Shillings and a Wee Heavy. I'd be very interested trying it outside of Scottish styles. Wyeast list a ton of other styles it's suitable for, plus it's a beast.

Mine are WLP 029 and WLP 833

I love trying out new yeasts tho and do so frequently.

@Homebrew42 just used WL 013 London ale for the first time a couple days ago on a malt forward amber ale. What about that strain do you like so much?

You mean WY2565? Have a preference between those two (029 and 2565)?

Insufficient experience. My beer with the Wyeast was superior -- it was meant to imitate the German style (I have never had an authentic commercial version). My beer with the White Labs was a rather lackluster American wheat (with rye). My preference reflects a preference for one style over the other rather than one yeast over the other.

Every time I used this one (2x, once in one of my earliest brews and once more recently) I got some sort of musty aroma that I didn't like.
