I'll be in Tulsa on the 31st, 1st and 2nd for the Gun Show and plan to bar hop a little. I have been to McNellies Pub and plan to include them again. It looks like there may be 4 Breweries in town and Prairie and Marshall are on my list. What about the other two and what is a favorite bottle shop? Thanks

Prairie as a brewery is no longer located in Tulsa, though they do have a restaurant located in downtown Tulsa (Prairie Brewpub). American Solera is located in Prairie's old location and is owned/operated by Chase Healey (former owner of Prairie). Marshall and Dead Armadillo are both worth checking out IMO (I personally haven't been to DA's taproom yet, but I have had several of their beers and they put out some solid brews).

American Solera puts out solid beers. I would check them out. Marshall's has somewhat limitted selections but they are good; I need to go back and fill a growler of the oatmeal IPA. Colins Midtown Liquor is good and near the gun show. I would check out Fur Shop for a bar. It is pretty close to Dead Armadillo. If the weather is nice they have a nice patio area.

Ditto what others have said above. If it was me I would book my hotel downtown, when not at the gunshow you can walk and drink, tons of places. Other places of interest
Roosevelts on Cherry Street (check out their website, they use the Digital Pour software)
Smoke on Cherry Street (place to eat)
Andolini's Pizza on Cherry Street (place to eat)
Second Fur Bar, they always have some interesting things on tap
Elgin Park Brewery (not that many taps, but sell their own beer pretty cheap most is < 5% so great place to hit up during the day for lunch)
Valkyrie (this place is kind of expensive, but I always make it a point to check them out, they sometimes have some pretty obscure beers on tap)
Prairie, and Andolini's Pizza are on Taphunter

Thanks for the replys everyone. I've been to this show, and Tulsa several times. But I've spent most of the time at the gun show and not out on the town. I really hated it when the Tulsa Brewing Company closed! Thats how long I've been going to this show!

So to be clear, can Prairie sell beer for on site for consumption on Sundays no problem? And does American solera have a traditional tasting room where you can order flights and also buy bottles to go? I've encountered some quirks to Oklahoma law and want to make sure things are as I expect. Now that I can visit these breweries it makes sense for me to do a short couple day trip out there to finally visit them directly.

My understanding of the laws regarding brewery sales (someone correct me if I'm wrong on something; it's Monday morning and I'm not fully awake yet) is that breweries are subject to the same time restrictions as liquor stores with regard to sales of full-strength beer. This means no sales on Sunday, or after 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. I don't believe that Prairie is open on Sundays anyway, so it may be a moot point. The Brewpub in Tulsa is a different story; they are open every day and can sell their beer anytime that they are open, but they are restricted to only making 4% or below beer. This is the current state of the brewery laws, but some of these aspects will (hopefully) be changing somewhat in the next couple of years.

American Solera does indeed have a very nice tasting room (that I highly recommend visiting!) with usually 8-10 beers on draft (6/8/12 oz. pours available of most beers), as well as bottles available for on/off-premise consumption. They also have plans in the works to open a second location in Tulsa in a much more accessible, populated part of town, though I'm not sure when their expected opening is.

Wait what? Prairie brewpub is limited to 4% and below for all beers on tap? Or just certain times?

EDIT: Yelp reviews show photos of their taplist showing multiple beers stronger than 4% so maybe they get around it by brewing the stronger stuff off site.

Pretty sure the actual beers brewed at the brewpub are under. Most of the higher ABV is from other breweries or brewed at Krebs. Prairie's main opperations are about 1.5 south of Tulsa.

They are limited only on what they produce on site. They have your usual Prairie beers on tap (Bomb, Standard, Paradise, etc.), as well as beer from other breweries, but they are purchased through distributors. Any beer purchased through distribution is treated the same as beer poured at any other restaurant/bar in town. The beer that they brew on-site for the Brewpub only, however, is limited to 4%.

Holy crap the beers at American Solera were legendary. IPA that could compete with fieldwork, big sludgy stouts, and delightful sours. That blackberry sour was delightful. Really glad we get their bottles out here in San Diego.

Hi everyone. I'll be in Tulsa Thursday through Sunday. Was gonna hit up Pairie for the BB! thing on Thursday and then probably check out AS on Friday. Was PLANNING on doing The Hop Jam on Sunday. So I'm wide open on Saturday. Here are my list of shitty "I'm from out of town fill me with knowledge questions".

    1. Does Prairie get crazy during events? I'm from Chicago if you can smell a trendy beer there's going to be 5x's as many people at the location.
    2. Is The Hop Jam beer fest worth it? You can answer that however you'd like. I imagine there will be enough breweries pouring beer that I can't get back home that, that would probably make it worth it but let me know what you think.
    3. What should I do Saturday night? My wife will be busy so I can do whatever I want.

    Thanks ya'll!

    1. The beer releases in Krebs are a big deal but I doubt the party will be too bad Thursday. I will be there for a while.
    2. Went to HopsJam last year and had a really good time. Passing this year for a couple of reasons. If you go I would recomend get the VIP pass for $15 more. The lines were rough when the typical ticket started. The music is a plus too. I would recomend John Fulbright if you end up going.
    3. Along with HopsJam there is a lot of stuff going on in that area of Tulsa all weekend. Mayfest is going on in the HopsJam/Prairie area and Blue Dome, half mile east, is doing some arts and crafts stuff too. Blue Dome has a solid bar area also. I would check out Furr Shop, Max Retro Pub, McNeilles, and Fasler Hall if not doing anything Saturday.

You can get beer no problem for on site consumption on Sundays at Prairie. Solera has a tasting room, but have only been to it on a Saturday. Took home a few bottles.

Other Bar's I'd reccomend if on that side of town ( Brookside) are The R Bar & Roosevelts
