I have been watching a few threads in the Beer Trade Forums regarding ISO: FT: and have followed a few. Hypothetically, don't you think I should be able to trade my 2008 Dark Lord for a six pack of PBR if that is the trade I propose? There are some BA's (some meaning well) who like to comment about it not being fair, or $4$ or how many bottles of this were produced as opposed to how many bottles of that were produced...If I have a want for a sixer of PBR for whatever reason, it holds that meaning to ME and shouldn't I have the right to set what I feel the value of it is in a trade? If you don't want to trade with me, then don't..some out there might just like the trade and are willing to do it....just asking...
You can set the value to whatever you want, but that doesn't mean it will work out. If you want to throw out an 08 DL for some PBR, that should happen pretty quickly, but don't expect PBR to get an 08 DL. As in any market, you can set the value to whatever you want, but that doesn't mean you'll always get what you want.
Everyone values beer differently. There are some things that can help people judge a beers value (production number, distribution, brewer, limited release, bottle size, taste, location, etc...) but this is just a gauge as we all don't place the same priority on these factors. It doesn't matter to me that DL may have a high trade value because you have to have a ticket and can only buy it one day a year. There are other stouts that are easier to get. The bottom line......as long as both sides are happy, who cares what other people say!
I don't think many people would give somebody shit for posting FT: 08 DL, ISO: PBR 6-pack. But if you posted FT: PBR, ISO: 08 DL, then you would get shit from everybody.
Like most things it's worth what people will actually pay, estimates and appraisals are only useful for insurance proposes. Things you value maybe some BA's not so much.
This is the correct answer. I have found that if you offer a very generous trade for a highly sought after beer people come to complement you and if you are the one trading the highly sought after beer and looking for multiples prepare to be ridiculed. The double standard of trading on BA: better to hunt for whales than trade for whales in the eyes of the masses.
It's not a double standard; going above $4$ is a favor. There's a difference between offering a favor and asking for a favor. It shouldn't be difficult to understand why those actions are reacted to differently in a community.
Enjoyed the condescending nature to your reply. Bravo! My only point was that if a person FT Framboos and ISO Muerte DL the reaction will be much different than if someone posts FT Muerte and ISO Framboos (this example happened exactly). My only point was that it is the exact same two beers but the reaction will be very different. That is all, nothing more nothing less. Beauty and "value" is in the eye of the beholder but I guess I should not have an opinion at all and just differ to your omniscient presence.
I'll concede that I might be missing your point, but that's a bad example. Those are two sought after beers.
People just need to stay out of other peoples trades. If you don't "approve" of the trade, just ignore it. A fair trade to one person may be a lopsided trade to another. Not everyone value's beers the same. Threadshitters who say "It won't get done..." You don't know that. Just because you don't think the offer is fair and won't get done doesn't mean everyone else out there thinks the same thing.
