so I have been trading on here for a while and always had good experiences. Put up a FT:ISO on Thursday night and someone responds by Friday morning. We start negotiations and by 330 later that day the beers I am asking for and the one he wants he now has up for a FT:ISO for himself and then later closes! I have sent a couple of messages now with no response. Thoughts? Never had this happen before and was upset but maybe this is beer trading now?

Wait - this guy starts talking to you about a specific trade, then posts a mirror of the same trade himself and closes it?

Not clear about what exactly happened.

Edit - just did some searching on the trade forums. Are you talking about your Pallet ; Sherry MZ trade?

The first thought that comes to mind is, did you send him a message asking him?

I'm not sure how any of us can answer this question, or what the purpose of the thread is?

Sorry for the confusion. Yes he responds to my FT, we start figuring out specifics, he stops responding to my messages and suddenly he has a FT:ISO that mirrors mine and closes it.

Strange behavior. Sounds like he was doing a fake negotiation with you to see what he could get for his????

Well if I am reading the right threads - didn't this guy post and then close a deal for 6 bottles when you guys were discussing potentially only trading one?

I mean I am going based just on what I see in the threads, but if I am reading the right 2 threads, the timeline is:
    • Thursday morning you post a 1:1 trade for 1 bottle (Pallet for Sherry MZ)
      • Discussions occur, not sure what was agreed to, but presumably nothing was finalized?
    • Friday someone (I assume this is the person) posts a trade for 6 bottles of relatively serious stuff
      • The 1:1 you had been discussing was in the trade but there was a ton of other beers
      • A few hours later he adds a note to say he would prefer to keep the bottles together as a 6 bottle shipper (reasonable enough - 1 big trade is always easier than 6 small ones)
      • They then close the deal (no details if for all 6)
Am I getting this right? I also note that the same person had the same basic FT posted for an IP trade last week.

From what you posted above it sounded like they posted the exact same trade, but I can't find it - only found the 6 bottle shipper one.

Unless I am looking at completely the wrong threads (which may well be true) then it seems this guy just wanted to a bigger trade all along, and perhaps didn't communicate very well that they were discussing a smaller trade with you, but their preference was to do a much bigger trade.

Unless you guys were at the 'OK, so the final deal is' stage and were about to exchange addresses, this seems like it is probably just a lack of communication / expectation setting? I mean, how close to done were you guys?

We were working on the plus on my end and potentially expanding when I stopped receiving messages. Agree probably lack of communication but still I just thought it was kind of weird and was just seeing if this is where trading is now

Yeah, that does seem a bit weird. I would expect something along the lines of "I have been looking to do a bigger trade, so I am going to throw that up first"

I understand why someone might prefer a bigger trade, but it is a bit odd they would discuss specifics then not tell you they had changed their mind. I think it is fair to expect better and more open communication.

    @pagriley
Thanks for the feedback on this. I completely agree about wanting a bigger trade and would totally been okay if I had just heard that. Even yesterday I responded to another FT and the guy said while I was the first he preferred someone offering IP which was cool. This just felt weird and wanted to make sure I wasn't off

No, I don't think you are off. I agree, it just seems a bit inconsiderate to not communicate that you have changed your mind / decided to look for a bigger trade. It doesn't seem that hard to me to send a note and say "hey man, I changed my mind and decided to look for a bigger 6 bottle trade".

If everyone posted a thread for each time a trading partner has gone silent during negotiations, I don't think the mods would be able to keep up. Having said that, I would probably just add the trader to my DNT list since communication is key and I wouldn't want to deal with that going forward.

To me it sounds like what the guy did left a bad taste and you found an indirect way to out this guy.

Honestly wasn't trying to out anyone just seeing if I was off base or not.
