First off, love the beer! The real reason for the post is that I went to my local grocery(Trader Joes) and the 22oz bottle was $3.59, GREAT! I went to the liquor store that carries craft beers I normally wouldn't catch at a grocery, $8.69!!!!! The same beer for more than $5. How is the mark up that much? Why the hell should anyone in the right mind pay that much? What is going on here????

Hah, now that you mention it I have seen Bastard prices literally all over the map. I could not tell you why, though.

It's frustrating. It's almost like finding the cheapest gas station. It's not just Bastard but in beer generally.

Same. This is the price we have in NY. Wouldn't be surprised if it was slightly less elsewhere, as this is NY, but not $3.59 I would assume usually.

Found some Oaked Bastard for $1.79 per 12oz bottle at a local beer/wine store here in Oregon. Needless to say I bought quite a few..

For the most part speciality stores are going to be higher because thier profit is coming from that one or two sources (ie liquor store = liquor). Trader Joes is a chain store with more purchasing power then your local independent liqour store, and probably have a higher customer base, they are making their profit margins off the food and hundreds of different products vs one and can afford to have the beer as a lead in or random convience purchase when you are there. Im guessing people that dont buy alot of craft beer at once and like to one stop shop would be the ones who would pay a premium for the convience.

I have noticed AB prices slowly creeping up around here over the last year or so... used to be $3.59 - $3.99 but now it is around $4.50 - $4.99 everywhere I go. Still less expensive than what most of you are reporting though

I have seen Samuel Smith four packs at Trader Joe's for 5.99, and then went to the BevMo in the same shopping center and the same four packs were 10.99. Sadly, I haven't seen this lately at Trader Joe's.
