Been seeing people looking for it and couldn't find any info other than its a barley wine

Rum Barrel aged version of their barleywine. Only 860 or so made and was brewery only. Was released Wednesday at 4, and I'm fairly certain they sold out yesterday.

Yeah. i haven't had it yet but early trustworthy (ie drinkers rather than traders) local reports say it's excellent. the Head Guy at NEBCO (who is pretty humble / quiet in general, at least when i talk to him-- caveat, i myself am rather creepy) told me he thought it was possibly the best beer to come out of the brewery.

...but maybe you shouldn't listen to me, since (full disclosure) i may try to setup an in person NYC trade with my one extra bottle (more likely i'll feel like i can't be assed to make the effort so who knows), so if you're of a cynical mindset you may want to take what i say with a grain of salt. i'm also a huge NEBCO fan.

re: trade value, my honest guess is that it's worth giving up a pretty good beer if you want to *drink* the redrum, but not if you're a tradewinner hero and want to flip it. NEBCO doesn't usually explode with value so don't snatch it up and sit on it (plus barrel aged beers usually get worse with age). also, it was a 6 bottle limit which usually enhances availability on the trading market. i'd probably trade mine for a HF (D)(I)PA growler or a 4pk of HT just for convenience sake though im not sure.

edit: amused to see what forum this is in. why not just check the enormous NEBCP thread?

Darn I wish I had time to make it down there, I love the PMM so I'm sure this is amazing also. Anyone have an extra they want to trade?

so yeah... forget what i said about setting up an in person trade. also, i advocate trading for this beer if you can.

The beer is really good. Unbelievable nose and a really solid flavor. Has a nice spice to it that makes it unique compared to all the other bourbon barrel barleywines out there. I made it at opening the day after the release when they had around 3 cases left. It sold very fast, but if you made it then six bottles is a pretty high limit. I'm not even going to speculate on its trade value, but like Pahn said...NEBCO has never been too flashy in the trading scene. It was half the limit and almost half the bottle count of BA IST though.

Its not the best beer out there, but if you like rum id go for it!

i'm pretty sure that most people would disagree with me, since i guess i have pretty individualized tastes, but honestly... for me it is the best beer out there. my first 5.0 out of 471 reviews. really oak forward, lots of malt flavor, great hop kick to balance it, with a bizarre coffee/espresso thing happening out of nowhere that takes everything over the top. i am in love with this beer.

The rum barrel did something really special to an already beautiful beer. I'm hardly qualified to make comparisons, but there was only one other BA barleywine I've had that made me go "wow..." right from the first sip.

NEB is on top of their barleywine and stout game these days.
