In NOVA and DC it sits around $18 a six pack.

I already laugh at the price here, but damn…

Seriously - you can buy a mixed 12 pack from Ballast Point here for $18.99… (which contains 4 Sculpin) OR you can spend $4 less and buy a 6 pack of Sculpin… Is anyone else seeing this?

Depends on where you get it. At Albertson's it's $17 but at BevMo it's $12-$13.

Well looking at other IPAs that are highly regarded

Zombie Dust sells for between $12.99 and $16.99
Alpha King sells for $12.99 and $14.99
Psuedo Sue sells for $8.99 a bomber, which works out to $30 for a 6-pack
    Furious is about $12
    Founders Harvest is $12.99-$15.99 for a 4-pack!

I could go on, but basically, all I'm saying is that is sucks Sculpin costs what it does, but let's not pretend that they are the only ones selling their "coveted" beers for a high price.

Drank it on tap in two different states on opposite sides of the country. Had it in bottles in another.

I still don't see the hype. Not a big fan here.

Had it on draft for the first time a month and half ago or so. I can tell you this, I wasn't blown away and like some others in this thread stated it's not worthy of its rating. I found it to be on par with Founders Centennial, nothing more, nothing less. Oh and certainly not worth $15 a sixer.

Drink it all the time, anywhere from 1 month to 4 months. Really never a problem with the consistency here, haven't noticed anything recent. I always keep my beer where my dog won't piss in it, that's a good thing.

I agree that $14 for a six-pack is high, that's what I see Sculpin going for in SoCal, but I have never been disappointed with Sculpin. It's always been a very good beer.

$13.99 a six pack here in Atlanta. Last time I got it it was awesome.

I forgot to mention a very useful price check in my area (Orange County). At Total Wine in Tustin, CA, you can find 6-pack of Sculpin bottles for.....$10.99! (Oddly, a 6-pack of cans cost $3 more).

I think that Sculpin is overrated, over priced and (in my area) almost always older than I would like.

I haven't bought it in quite a while.

They might be better served by going to a 4 pack. A $10.99 4 pack is an easier buy that a $15.99 6 pack.

Amen. That stuff is incredible. Unfortunately I have to drive an hour to Wisconsin to buy the stuff.

Had some Sculpin on tap at a cool little bar everyone was raving about it. It was very good. I bought a 1/6 keg a few weeks back from bevmo and saw when I got it home it was 5 months old.I never tapped it just brought it back the next day. I emailed Ballast Point and they recommended returning it too. They don't recomend anything past 3 1/2 months old.

They need to rotate this stuff once it hit 2 months send it to a bar where it will get drank before it starts to lose the flavor.

I have had similar experiences with Lagunitas when fresh it is amazing but when I see 4 month old beer and its the end of summer I stay away. Those 100 degree weeks in August can really mess up a great beer.

They are both very good IPAs.

Sculpin was my favorite beer for some time. I have since had so many others like ZD, pseudo sue, invasion, alpine ipas that sculpin just doesn't hit the same level. Still a good beer though!

This beer garners more vitriol than any other year round offering on this site.

There must be a lot of distributor variability as my local bottle shop can always get it fresh but we recently had a new distributor and suddenly it is three dollars a six pack cheaper. Regularly see it 2 weeks old across the country.

Perhaps the most important thing is that people only get what they know they can sell quickly. I know for a fact that the person I get it from says he would much rather run out than ever have it sit.

    Never disappoints.

I'll indulge in a six pack of Sculpin cans from time to time. I usually just drink it out of the can.
    Give it some time.

I don't get it in New Mexico, but my folks live in Tucson, so I usually get it when I'm there (which is pretty often). I've seen it slipping over the past couple of years. I bought a fresh 12 pack of cans last year and it was full of diacetyl. I tried it recently on draft at Tap and Bottle and it was much better but it didn't seem as tropical and bright as it once was.

Heady Topper goes for $15 for a 4 pack of 16 oz cans or $75 for a caser of 24 of the same, which I think is reasonable- but it practically guaranteed to be fresh.
