Glad to see I'm not alone. Fat Tire has always been my "reference" beer.

Unless, I'm stuck at some warped party, I'm not drinking a 3 I've had before. There are too many off the shelf 4+ for every style like Ten Fidy, Pliny, Sculpin, Bigfoot, Alaskan Smoked Porter, Founders Porter, RR sours, etc..

If there was a dislike button, I'd probably break a record. Pliny and Two-hearted. It's not a 3, but old rasputin is the RIS I compare all others to.

two hearted isn't bad, but I think there is a lot of stuff a whole lot better and more interesting to be drank.

If Two Hearted is a 3, I'd love to see what you have as a 5.

Two closest I have to a 3 are Bayern's Dragon's Breath at 3.13 and DFH Ta Henket at 2.98

maybe 3.5? It is good, but I think that there are other IPAs that are more enjoyable.

Man, I don't know if i'd put fat tire and shiner in the same rating category. To me shiner has always been a step up from an american adjunct lager while fat tire is the gateway brew into craft for so many people. I used to love it, but after broadening my horizons I realized it is nothing like a real belgian ale. Lol.
Nit picking aside, I've got a three in almost every style category that I drink out of that I use to judge the rest. Old raspy is my ris, but I can. Drink ten fidy all day, so when I do try something new it gets to where I say this is better than raspy, bbut not as good as tf. So I wind up passing it up next time. Same thing with wheat beers. I compare.them.all to franziskaner, but o enjoy paulaner's the most.I guess what I'm getting at. Is that I have a three, but I use it as my bottom tier instead of middle of the road. If it's better than my three I'll try it again later, but I'll probably go to my fours. And if its less than three it's dead to me.

Pretty much any Left Hand stuff from what I've seen. I got a variety pack with 3 each of the Stranger Pale, Black Jack Porter, Milk Stout, and ESB and all were '3' beers for me.

Lake Superior Brewing Company - Sir Duluth Oatmeal Stout, and Redhook ESB both got 3s from me as well.

Every time I hear of a CO beer getting a meh reaction, I always wonder " how fresh it?" Most tasted great to me when I lived in the CO. Quite frankly none have mesured up when I've tried them in the bottle when I go back to NC o visit family ( the only not tasty old chub & Great Divide brews I ever had were there). Likewise I've gotten stale Left Hand in Oklahoma & Mizzou the last few years...

I just checked my beer ratings. Closest to 3 are an odd couple: Leiny's Summer Shandy and GI Night Stalker. Both are definitely too specific in their styles to be a base line beer.

I'd have to agree with Fat Tire, though...and I'll also throw in Sam Adams Noble Pils.

It's funny how so many mention Fat Tire. I liken my experience to that of a drug addict. The first time I tried it, I loved its biscuit maltiness. On subsequent tastings, it's never been quite as good. I want that original biscuit malt rush, man!

Every time I think of the number 3, I always manage to envision a bottle of Fat Tire. I can't think of a more painfully average beer in every way imaginable.

Also members of my "painfully average all 3's club" are Golden Monkey and FBS on tap (don't ask).

3 to me means boringly average and something I wouldn't try again. 3.5 to me is pretty good and 4 is good. As a big fan of beer I find many things to be pretty good or better. I have less than 10% of what I have ticked as 3 or lower, it then again I don't really seek out bad beer just for the tick. One day I will, but for now, too much good beer out there.

I think you should probably try this one again. While tastes differ, I don't think anyone on this site would label this as a boringly average beer. Maybe not your favorite, sure.
