Just out of curiosity, I was looking at the beers I've reviewed (I basically review every new beer the first time I try it, just reviewed #900 yesterday) and realized that for the last 3 months, almost every single new beer I have tried has been from Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, or Alaska or a European import. You have to go back to May 27 to find anything from farther east within the U.S. (Goose Island Class of '88, which I bought mainly because I'd tried several of the other Class of '88 beers, all from the West Coast), and then to May 5 (Victory Dirt Wolf), and then to April 23 (Boulevard Love Child No. 3). Everything else is basically West Coast or European. I guess this shouldn't be too surprising, but for some reason it is.

What about you? If you look at your recent or long-term beer drinking habits, what surprises you?

I'm talking in my post about beers consumed by region, but to keep the discussion interesting feel free to open up the interpretation of the question however you like. Cheers!

Nothing surprises me anymore except maybe for the sheer number of IPA's I have drunk in relation to other styles. Congrats on 900 and WooHOO! I shall have a flower power as a toast to you!

I am not surprised by anything other than how early in the AM I am guilty of posting to WBAYDN.:grimacing::grimacing::wink:

Honestly, I don't know how some of you people do it. By the time I crack my first beer, most days WBAYDN is already on page 10... I guess having a job does have its own rewards though.

Knowing that nearly all the beers you drink are from the west coast, makes me even more excited to move to the west coast. It'll be exciting to add Deschutes and New Belgium into my craft beer lexicon as well.

As for the type of pattern being asked for, I haven't really had one since I've started trading and doing bottle shares with other advocate's and doing a couple online purchases. Now I drink from outside my distro a good amount of the time. I suppose the only significant pattern I exhibit is generally drinking beers rated 90 and above on BA... it's not the sole judge on what I choose to drink, but I continue to use the ratings as a gauge since in my experience, it often leads me in the right direction.

Not that there's anything wrong with them, but you might want to set your bar a little higher if you're excited about Deschutes and New Belgium. I'm not sure where you're moving to, but between Washington, Oregon, and California we have around 900 breweries. Honestly, it's pretty hard to keep up.

I'm thinking of Fresh Squeezed, The Abyss and Lips of Faith - La Folie. I've heard those are exceptions and most of their beers are sub-par, but I'm glad at least some of the great one's may be easy to get. Moving to San Diego, BTW.

West Coast, West Coast, Europe, West Coast - trade arrives - East Coast, East Coast, West Coast, West Coast, European, - trade arrives, Midwest, Midwest....etc

But, having said that, in Eastern Washington I can pop over the border and get O'dells, and Jolly Pumpkin etc. So It's pretty varied.

Really torn between all of the great west coast things now that we can regularly get in NC fresh and really exploring the new NC offerings many of which are top notch.

Jolly Pumpkin is available in Washington, at least this side of the mountains... not Odell though. I guess I haven't really been all that wowed by any of the JP beers I've had so far though.

I jump from style to style. In the spring I was pounding ipas, then moved on to wheat beers, now I'm on to stouts, soon it'll be time for marzens and pumpkin beers

Everything I can find. I steer towards stouts, barleywines and saisons, my favorite styles, and regional ones, just because they are easiest to find.

Random like a mofo, aside the fact my beer guy is back restocking the shelves with goodies.

I bounce around like crazy, cause I can't be tied down to anything... i get bored too easily... unless I am drinking...

    that's how I roll
