"You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes."

It was years ago that I chose the red pill and got thrust into the ever growing beer rabbit hole. Honestly, i love it! I love trying new beers, visiting breweries, meeting/trading/drinking with other enthusiasts...its all good. But, Ive noticed that with every new beer, I seem to be judging it based on its level of intensity. Always searching for more coffee, more barrel, more hops, more fruit, etc.
I recently drank Bud Light out of a can and was brought back to a sense of liking a beer based solely on what it is, not what I wish it was. It was perfect for a backyard bullshit session with my brother. I want this balance back in my life. By no means do I plan on climbing out of the rabbit hole, but a reality break every once in a while would be good for the palate.
So, what beer brings you back to reality? Whats your blue-beer-pill?

I've played hockey since I was 4 and still pay on two teams to this day (I'm 31). After every game there's a freshly stocked cooler of either some kind of Labatt, Molson, Moosehead, or some other good ol' boy Canadian beer. At that time, it's the best best beer imaginable.

This site is named Beer Advocate, not BBA Beer Advocate or DIPA Beer Advocate. You (and anyone else that wants to drink beer) should drink what you like, whether it's Bud Light or BCBS or Heady.

SNPA. Had it countless times over the years and it's always the same reliable, delicious, drinkable beer that I don't have to think about when enjoying it.

Also Busch Light (blue yummies in the local parlance) when hanging out with my non-craft beer relatives who always have a 30 rack at the ready. Honestly not a bad beer if you know going in it is gonna taste mostly like water.

Despite my avatar.... go-to beer on the beach is either Mich Ultra or SNPA. It's too hot to drink anything else, plus it has to be in cans per local ordinances.

That's not to say that I haven't enjoyed a few other things on the beach, but these are the go-to's.

For those in Michigan, Perrin Gold is an excellent alternative to the macros. It's brought back my desire for easy-drinking, great-tasting beer.

I think Yuengling Lager always helped me keep me somewhat grounded, but how grounded may have varied over the years.

If there was "blue pill" moment it might have been on a vacation at a Caribbean resort with my wife and another couple we are friends with. One evening we randomly started chatting with another couple at the resort. Myself and the other husband started getting beers for each other and somehow cans of Schaeffer became the beer of the evening. Over several hours of chatting and many beers we cooperatively built an impressive can pyramid of Schaeffer empties we were very proud of! "Good" beer was completely unnecessary that evening to have a great time.
