Judging from the top vote on this thread, many, many of us have a buying problem. I'm included, but trying my best to fix this.

I have to say, I'd buy a case of FBS for $20 on principal. Possibly two.

I live in a place where it is not easy to get access to good US beers. As such, when I travel to the United States, I tend to stock up on "the good stuff" and my collection tends to go up in numbers. Right now it is sitting at about 50 bottles, but I have another trip south planned and that number will go up. During the winter, it usually drops below 25 bottles.

I care too much about freshness to keep a big collection. I have a 2015 KBS and a 2015 BCBS to go along with the last 3 years of Anchor Christmas in my cellar, that's it. It drives me nuts to have more than 10 beers or so on hand, unless I'm planning a party or something.

Currently sitting on just over three dozen and slowly whittling that down. Sometimes it was seeing a great deal like a six pack of Champion Killer Kolsch for $7 and sometimes it was a matter of a desire to try a number of different beers. Fortunately my wife is an understanding soul..

I have little over 50 bottles in my mini beer cellar. Told my self once I fill the mini cellar that I would stop buying more for cellaring. That hasn't happen and now more bottles are spilling into the basement corner. Going to make a hard decision on what I will cellar and what is going get consumed sooner. Mainly trying to keep and start up some verticals. So far for sure the BCBS, Deth's Tar, Pararbola, CW BBS, and DLs are staying in the cellar. Rest will be drank soon to clear space. Must not expand cellar size!

My wife isn't fully onboard with cellaring, so can't let it get out of hand. On the other hand, if it were a deal on a case of Pirate Bomb, KBS, CW Cassian Sunset, or BCBS then I would chance it...

I have around 150, mostly because I like experimenting with aging and verticals. Most (but not all) of my experimenting has demonstrated that most beers don't change appreciably with age and, those that do change don't necessarily improve. That being said, my 150 is slowly shrinking because I'm just not that into it anymore.

The most interesting thing to me is that so many of the "old timers" on here do not have much of a "collection". That anecdotally supports my hypothesis that collecting/hoarding/trading/whale hunting is more-or-less a newbie thing that most people grow out of when they realize that a lot of those beers on the shelf are underrated and those obtained via long lines/trading/etc. are generally overrated.

I'm in the 250-500 camp, currently sitting around ~350. The problem for me is verticals + variants (within verticals) are piling up. Plus a LOT of de Garde trips in recent months have led to a bit of a stockpile. ~50 of the bottles are earmarked for specifically themed shares in the next couple of months though so the bottle count should start trending down.

    I answered 0-12.

Currently, I have 1 bomber that I'm holding (Evil Twin - Bozo), but there is no timetable for how long I keep it. The rest are in my refrigerator (10-12) that are not going to be there in a week or two.

About 75 here. Mostly high abv stouts and lambics. Not really a cellar but I like having options.

Have a tad over 100 currently. I have been trying the last couple years to build up enjoyable verticals for some like Fremont B-bomb and BBA Dark Star as examples. Others I want to try now and a couple years later. Been a learning experience for sure but I started to keep better notes of what I have in an Excel spreadsheet; keeping an eye on those best buy dates for sure. I don't see an issue with keeping unique or favorite beers that age for awhile. Thankfully I got boxes that keep them secure and from light.

200ish. Got into sours about 9 months ago and went trade crazy.

Keep a full stock Wicked Weed's sour line up for trade purposes.

I have 75% of a mini fridge full. Because i buy more than i drink. And i buy 90% single bottles. Rare that i buy sixers but if its a german style, red IPA, brown ale or anything brewed with honey i buy 6. But i do buy cases of Coors light or PBR for parties and company. So anywhere from 30-60 bottles amd cans but id count just my personal beers which is around 20 tops at any time.

Being in California, I feel my total bottle count is limited to a significantly lower number than if I were in colder parts of the US or had a basement. I have about 50 bottles as of right now and about 10 of those are not in the refrigerator, but instead in the coldest part of my house that I could possibly find. I'd like to have a few more, but over 100 bottles is where I feel I have too much to even drink. I've been recently trying to make a dent by opening up some of them, but one can only drink so many BA stouts a week lol..

I'm in the 25-50 category. I'd be curious to see how long it took people to get into these categories. I'm at around 8 months of buying beers to cellar.

Yeah, a few years ago I was picking up stuff I thought I'd never be able to track down again. Some channels opened up, I'm suddenly less worried, and I don't think I need to keep my fridge quite so packed.

I just have to be able to think to myself: "I'm going to be able to get two bottles of FW XX this year. I'm going to be able to get two bottles of FW XX this year. I'm going to be able... " Imagining my reality, making it so.

I have 40-50 in the cellar currently. I've been into craft for about 10 months, and started cellaring because I was running across seasonal stouts that I liked but wanted to enjoy throughout the year. I am finding out that several of them - though called seasonal - are available most of the year (such as FBS and Abyss which they're still trying to clear out). Others I am cellaring are cult (KBS, BCBS, Abyss, Pirate Bomb) or real limited availability seasonals (Central Waters BBS and Cassian). About half of what I drink are new singles I am trying. So not really cellaring to age/improve, just to have what I like on hand. My cellar actually started with some Sam Adams I had when I got into craft. After a few months of craft, I realized I would never drink the Sam, so gave them away.
