Tough question to answer. Depends on your ability to travel. I live on the South Shore of Massachusetts, Trillium's Melcher Street is my favorite,

I can't narrow it down to just one. I usually categorize favorite beers into two vague criteria: Enormous, flavor bombs; and everyday crushers.
My favorites of the former are Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout, and Founders Backwoods Bastard.
My favorites of the latter are pilsners such as Firestone Walker Pivo, Victory Prima Pils, and Lagunitas Pils; or IPAs such as Stone IPA, Lagunitas Sucks, Smuttynose Finestkind, and Bell's Two Hearted Ale.

It's really a hard question but a good conversation starter. before I would recommend any one beer to you I would have to say that most of the aficionados on BA have their personal favorite styles NOT specific beers , which makes sense when you realize most of these folks have drank a lot of beer. personally I have a few favorite styles but I tend to be a pale not a dark beer drinker. That is the opposite of what you find usually. The dark beers have darker heavier flavors. The paler beers are the least and the most hoppy. Now that you are confused, please try my personal favorite cheap beer that everyone knows I drink to excess. Bittburger premium. Try every well made lager you can find, both light and dark. Don't smoke, and start keeping tasting notes.

Depending on what you have available to you I say start with Old World. That's what I did and it gave me a great baseline by which to judge and understand a lot of the styles we work with in the US (ie IPAs, stouts, porters, pilsners, barelywines etc). Wouldn't call it necessary, just a thought

If not try some of Sierra Nevada's core line up. Chances are you be able to get any of their beers and they make fantastic examples of any style they choose to do.

    Also, welcome to BA!

Welcome to BA. Oh that question, you have no idea what you just started.. we've had this asked every now and then.. or ''two beer for the rest of your life''. Etc.

I'll answer that I don't have a favorite beer, but among different styles, I have a favorite beer (Duvel for Belgian strong Pale Ale, Stone IPA for... IPA, Brooklyn BCS for Stouts etc)

    Cheers.

That really is a tough one. Since getting into craft beer just this year I have been trying many many different styles as well as breweries within those styles. As an "everyday" beer Sam Adams is my go to. As for stouts I like Founders Breakfast Stout. For Belgian Ales I like Chimay and Duvel as well. While I am not a big fan of IPA's I do find that I am starting to like more hop forward beer (thank you lupulin shift). So i guess this all goes to say I don't have A favorite. Also thanks to all the members here who have been a great source of knowledge and help.

Welcome to BA! To answer your question: subject to change and have favorites in nearly every style. Go-to's vs. annuals vs. special releases...this is Pandora's box my friend! That being said, I can never get sick of Old Rasputin or most of Modern Times and Pizza Ports offerings as year rounds. Cheers and good luck on your never ending quest!

Pros: Consistency, availability, drinkability and pairs well with food.
    Cons: Costly (~$14, 4-Pack)

Hello again! I'd recommend working your way through Boulevard's lineup. They offer outstanding beers of many different styles, and they're reasonably priced as well.

Forgot to mention Boulevard's Smokestack Series. There are some great barrel-aged beers in that lineup. Corked and caged 750-ml format, average price here runs about $14.
