Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock. Nothing else even comes close to matching that smoke flavor. It is unbelievably delicious and has a perfect, thick, smooth mouthfeel.

Ahhhh, Dopplebock... one of my favorite styles. I really like Korbinian a lot because it's always good and I seem to get something different out of it every time I drink it. And definitely agree with guinness77, even though it is a Weizenbock, Schneider Aventinus Tap 6 is simply an amazing beer. It's not just a great Bock its an overall great beer.

Although, they do have the wrong photo for this beer on BA. this is the correct photo -

While I really like that beer, I almost don't think of it as a doppelbock. Obviously it IS a doppelbock, but I tend to think of it like some sort of weird American offshoot. Not sure why - but I don't think it scratches my doppelbock itch. It is a really good beer, though.

If I'm going OTHER THAN Celebrator, then yeah, it's Korbinian all the way for me. I've never had Andechser unfortunately. Would like to remedy that someday.

I also support the Aventinus comments. Doppel, weizen, or however else you'd like to classify it, that is consistently a world class beer in every sense of the phrase.

And didn't Troegenator just get released in pounder cans? I need that in my life, ASAP.

    Have not had Celebrator.

Hooker Liberator is #1 for me.
    Troegenator is a close 2nd.

Generator by Metropolitan is my favorite. It's very easy drinking, not too sweet and has excellent toasted grain flavor.

Great Lakes Doppelrock I drank by the case when they bottled it in Feb-Mar '12. However, I think it is brewery only again they replaced it with Alchemy Hour aka Chill Wave

Checking my history, it looks like my top three of the style are all tied at 4.0 each:

    Samichlaus Bier Helles
    Salvator Doppel Bock
Hair Of The Bear (Mammoth Brewing)

Looks like I have never reviewed Celebrator, though I know I have had it.

    @dopple....
Back in the late 90s, when there were really only a handful of good American breweries available to NY, me and a buddy (also German) would smash these Aventinus' like 3 or 4 at a time, and wow...8.2% seemed like so much power to me back then. The bier is so drinkable, they would go down so quick...haha, absolutely hammered before you'd even know it.

When I was in college (smh, like 15 years ago) there was a local bar that always had Optimator on tap for $3. It was never served in a weizen glass (because poor college kids like me were stealing them) but, wow. Those pints caught up to you quick.

Salvator was always a favorite too, good call. Good ol' Paulaner.

My favorite is Korbinian - relatively cheap, always available and pretty damn tasty. Like someone said above, like drinking liquid form of the candy raisinets.

Finally got to try the Andechs Dopplebock a couple months ago and it is solid. Can't go wrong with Optimator.

One that I didn't see mentioned was Ettaler Curator, to me that was very good.

I know its the original Dopplebock and I've tried to like Paulaner Salvator on a few occasions, but just can't get into it.

Best American version I've had was the Trogenator

Not too many people will say this one, but my favorite is Duck Rabbator by Duck-Rabbit. It's the closest brewery to where I live so being local is nice. It's just so damn good.
