My current candidate is Southern Tier Right-O-Way IPA, which is 4.6% and rather flavorful.

Unknown Brewing Scratch N Sniff completey changed my view of what a session IPA can be, which I already enjoy. I started drinking them out of a tulip glass after I tried the first one, thinking it was a DIPA. Until my wife alerted me it was a 4.7% session...

The point is that a session ale is determined by physiological considerations rather than by arbitrary decisions. At below 4% ABV the dehydrating effect of alcohol is outweighed by the over 96% of water ingested with it.If you want a beer you can drink indefinitely without undue results then the ABV must be very low.It is not a matter of definition as much as finding out what works.
This is of course a happy coincidence. Session beers were the outcome of rationing rather than physiological understanding.

What's the point of shitting on people's favorite session IPAs? This is obviously only for people who enjoy them. Hence the "favorite" in the title. Why post on this particular thread if even in your own words you have nothing constructive to offer?

The point is demanding there is only one definition is arbitrary, and, frankly, ungracious.

I live in a culture where we may consume no more than two 5% beers at one sitting. Other cultures may consume half dozen Imperial pints of 3.4% ale during a drinking period. Each culture has the right to their own defining terms and neither may demand that others accede to one definition of things.

I was responding and agreeing to the other posters comments, not the OP.Thread shitting IMO would be to directly reply and quote on his post which I didn't.

You were both shitting on the thread. I told him the same thing. Hey, wouldn't it be more constructive to just start a thread discussing the positives or negatives of session IPAs?

I can't say I've found one I like although Founders AllDay comes close but I won't buy it, I went to school in Colorado in the 70's and they said you can drink the 3.2 ABV all day long, I asked why, I feel the same about the session beers now, why?

It's kinda a weekly topic, and I really had no intention of posting anything, I was mainly agreeing with the other poster. But I get your point.

Future Glow from Burlington Beer Co. It's better than Baby Genius, IMO. It's also the first beer I've bought a whole case of since living in PA many moons ago.

I happen to love session IPAs and am a huge Super Session #2, Over Easy and Yum Yum fan (all similar to each other) but Future Glow just kills it with the hazy hoppy NE style awesomeness.

I always enjoy some All Day IPA and Go To IPA. But I have been tanking some major DIPAs/TIPAs that I think a good ole Two Hearted pounder would feel about the same as a session for me right about now.

The whole point though is that it isn't about how much you DO drink it's how much of it you CAN drink.
I own a fast car.It is a "fast car" even when sitting in the garage. It's about design and purpose rather than actual usage.

My favorite session IPA's are Baby Genius, Eureka with Citra, Super Session #2, and Spring Fever Session IPA.

Hmm, lets see, six Imperial pints of cask ale is approximately one gallon and contain around 1600-1800 calories. Yes, I suppose I could do that but probably wouldn't even though I like the stuff.

Back to session IPAs I'm still exploring, so little time, so much work.

My favorite is Social IPA by Angel City. I never see it though.

I like it more than Easy Jack and Even Keel.

Personally I think there should be a standard for pale ales:

    < 5% = Session
    5% - 5.9% = Pale Ale
    6.0% - 7.9% = IPA
    8% - 9.9% = DIPA
    > 10% = TIPA

I know in the end it's just marketing and it really doesn't matter but it's just annoying when you have can have a DIPA that is 7.5% and a single that is the same or more.

As for the topic at hand, I recently had Whirlpool, Future Glow and Baby Genius for the first time and thought Baby Genius blew them all out of the water. The other 2 didn't stand out other than the hazy look.

Six pints a night was quite a modest amount when I was in my 20s and 30s. I never put on weight either for some reason. The limiting factor was the cost!
Session strength beer runs about 180 to 200 calories per Imperial pint so 1200 extra calories a day was no big deal at that age
