I've had many of the usual suspects: All Day, Levitation, Oarsman, Go To, Lil' Sippa, etc.
and all are drinkable. Instead, for lower ABV (5%), I'm drinking Cigar City's Invasion Pale Ale.

5% is way too strong for a session beer anyway.Drink 12 or 20 pints at a sitting and the reason becomes obvious.

Perhaps a session IPA should be around 3.5%. Now, what highly popular English IPA can we think of that comes in at that strength....

Good call on the dribble belt. Most people don't know about that one, but super on point.

None but Nooner Pilsner is a good "American Session" beer.

@Dr.Stiffington: thank you for the clarity. also i heard certain beers we take for granted here in the states actually make lower alcohol content versions for certain southern states which may be what Lordcrabapple was talking about even if this isn't common knowledge

boat is by far the best but not really an ipa

been drinking a bunch of NB slowride not bad for $14 a 12 pack
Stone is very good but expensive and I stopped buying stone a while ago
Lagunitas is my go to , I taste a nice smoky flavor for some reason
    Recreationale is not bad either

Missing a few I am sure

Easy Jack and New Belgian Slow Ride (a very pleasant surprise) are both very solid... I think Easy Jack just barely edges out Slow Ride. Pale 31 also rocks, though labeled an APA. Stone Go-To hangs out in 3rd place; its relative price having a fair amount to do with that.
