Westmalle and St. Bernardus rank on up there as my favorites. Chimay is really high up there as well.

I appreciate the style but not one I am excited by. My answer would seem to show a lack of respect to the proper Tripels, I mean no disrespect my answer is all about personal taste. I would drink Captain Lawrence Golden Delicious all day long. I really enjoy that beer.

On that note, every opinion excluding yours is right. But yes, Westmalle did originate the style...

Personally I'd take De Dolle Dulle Teve over Westmalle but both are fantastic.

I agree with Westmalle, Chimay, Karmaliet and La Fin and would like to add Bellwoods' Phantom Limb tripel that I recently had on tap at the brewery. A very smooth tripel.

My favorite is Tripel van de Garre, which as far as I know is only sold at one bar in Bruges. It could be the special memory of that place, it could be the beer; all I know is that it was an incredible beer in a special place. Westmalle is always a classic, though Chimay does a good one as well.

Westmalle was the original. But first doesn't always mean best. If someone said to me, tell me any tripel you've had before and I will instantly produce a free bottle for you, there are quite a few I would probably take ahead of Westmalle...

    Karmeliet
    Long Strange Tripel
    La Fin Du Monde
    Chimay White
and probably even The Tide and Its Takers, even though the brett makes it pretty far out for the style.

Don't get me wrong, Westmalle is a terrific beer, I just don't think it's still the best in style.

It's a pretty good beer but if it's the same one as the listing below, I tried it here in the US:
