I have yet to give a 5/5. Probably never will because I always believe there is room for improvement. So say I rate 5/5 then a new beer comes out thats better, I cant rate it any higher than 5/5. Heady topper comes close, but the batches have varied where some are much better than that last time I have had it, and they are also always looking to improve. Also many big aged stouts come close. A 2007 BCBS consumed a couple of months ago was almost my first 5.

    4.7/5
    rDev +19%
    look: 4.75 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.75 | overall: 4.75
Gotta rate this one highly for originality and execution. This is the direction Carton goes where no one else is going. In this case it really works.

A: Nearly perfect porter look, with rings of lace, body, and staying power.

S: The chocolate, raisins, and peanuts rise off the beer in subtle charred format.

T: The taste astounds for being completely original, true to trail mix, and yet a real solid charred, roasty porter without being cloying... finishes dry and long. A great flavor ride.

MF: Excels in body, tingle, finish.

You must try this beer, it's now my favorite porter, which says alot. Compares well with Chocolate Stout and RIS.

Just curious, since hi-res is so far from what I'm looking for in a DIPA, what other DIPAs are you into?

I'm not even sure if hi-res is a DIPA or something else. I'm also a fan of hi-res, but it doesn't even enter my head when I think about DIPAs. I rate it below resin, which I'm drinking right now, but I'm a fan of most sixpoint brews, and hi-res is up there

bell's hopslam, sierra nevada hoptimum, resin, jai alai, sculpin & heady topper ect. those are some of the DIPAs i have enjoyed. i love hi-res. thats why i gave it a 5. different strokes for different folks i guess.

    right on man.
i love resin and heady. never tried hopslam because it doesn't make it to ma. don't like jai alai at all and sculpin is just ok, IMHO. well we agree on resin and heady and I like hi-res too, it just doesn't hit me like a DIPA. I think this might make sense.
    cheers.

Founders imperial stout. I had it at 4.75 and then had it again and bumped it up to 5. So good and it's a non barrel aged stout.
