I do not drink them on a regular basis, but have enjoyed them every time I have (which begs the question of why I don't regularly drink them....). What I enjoy about them is the depth of flavor v. a barley wine (which I also love) and as @smakawhat mentions, the texture. I actually have a Bruery White Oak that I never got around to drinking when I bought it ......like a year ago....... that can enlighten me from an aging stand point.

Maybe I'll start chatting up all the brewers in my area about making one. Certainly seems like a style that Strangeways would dabble with.

I love me some Wheatwines!! Old Sol by Big Time in Seattle is probably my favorite.

Had my first one in quite some time last week, Boulevard Harvest Dance, and really enjoyed it. Not a style I drink often, but would certainly purchase them if they were more available.

In theory there are even different approaches much like with Barleywines. For instance, some are made in the vein of Bigfoot with hefty C hops. Others are closer to "English" style (not literally, but you get my drift) and sweeter with earthier hops.
I'd 100% be game if this style were to re-emerge. I like the husky wheat character and barleywine profile combined.

Sweet Repute was phenomenal (though not a straight up wheatwine as it was aged in maple bourbon barrels).

I intend to drink more now after trying my first one, Boulevard harvest dance wheat wine ale, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I agree with your description OP, seemed to me like a more refreshing, less brash barleywine. Not to say that it lacked any depth or complexity of flavor, because it did not. Delicious beer.

Aside from meat, isn't a hamburger basically bread?

Anything 'Bock' Is 'bottom (lager) fermented'
a Wheatwine is an ale making it 'top fermented'

Not true. Bock merely means "strong". It can apply to top-fermented ales (such as weizenbocks) as well as lagers.

I know historically, pre 18th century they were mostly Ale's. The history is a little sparse on them

    as per BA's description:
'As for the beer itself in modern day, it is a bottom fermenting lager that generally takes extra months of lagering (cold storage) to smooth out such a strong brew.'

I think weizenbocks are top-fermented. Basically a hefe with more alcohol.

Sweet Repute was good fresh, but too hot for my tastes. I'm aging my second bottle for a long time.

Has anyone ever tried Bare Tree from Two Brothers? the '13 vintage is everywhere and a bar by my gf's tapped a 2009 vintage and it was very apple juicey but very good after my meal. Anyone else try this beer?

Revolution Filibuster was quite delicious. Elijah's Revival by Pipeworks is incredibly well made.

Arcade Brewery made an oatwine called Winter Slayer. It has that butterscotch flavor that wheatwines can have.
