When the beer doesn't justify the price.

IE: I like Sculpin, but here it's $17, not at that price.

Most clubs in NYC charge $8 for a Heineken. Ug.

If I have to pay for it (i.e. someone else isn't footing the bill), I drink water beyond a certain point. I WILL NOT be extorted beyond a certain point.

All the time man. There's nothing more annoying than a waitress asking if I want the Bud Light "Special" at $4 for a 20 oz glass. $4 on a beer at TW/Bev Mo/my favorite dive craft beer stores is a HopSlam/Sculpin/Hop Stoopid/etc. I'd rather drive out of my way on the way home for a night cap than drink that overpriced piss water with dinner. Same goes for concerts/games/etc x 2.

You should look at under the "Places" tab though for your area and see what's around, you'd be surprised how many restaurants/venues/stores carry some pretty swanky beer at reasonable prices.

...And I guess the line I draw would be when something costs more than 2-3 times as much as it would cost in a store. As far as 4/6 packs once you get up over $12 I really start to question whether I want it that day or not (like Sculpin/Gubna/Ten Fidy). Sorry I didn't answer the orig question in the last post.

I prefer to spend under $10 in general for quality bottles or decent 4/6 packs. But every now and again if it is a one-off special edition I have spent as much as $25 on a bottle. But I only do that for limited batch brews.

I am fortunate that there are a few stores in New Hampshire that sell season's end and near expiration date beers for about half the price they are normally sold for on clearance racks and the like. So in these cases, patience is a virtue.
