    +1. Very succinctly put.

As with any home made venture, inconsistency (within limits, of course) is part of the charm. Homemade cookies may vary slightly from batch to batch due to all kinds of variables, but, assuming you have a clue as to what you're doing, they're all good. Likewise, home brewed beer will vary. Some will be better than others, but every now and then, you'll brew something that will blow your socks off! Contrast that with Bud Light, where there are absolutely no surprises when you raise the bottle to your lips.

Exactly! My second favorite hobby is home cooking, and for me the same rules apply. I never make a recipe exactly the same more than once, either. That's so boooooorrring.

same reason I make my own saurkraut/kim chi. So much better than the cabbage soaked in vinegear sold in stores. The older sciences blow my socks away by how much they didn't know yet were much better off than today.

And beer-nurd-*****-willows will cry "wahhh" if the beer's price exceeds their budget. After all, you can only save so much by living in your parents basement.

    4lbs wheat malt
    4lbs pale malt
.5 oz perle hops 15 min
    german ale yeast
7days later add lacto from wyeast 5335
I only did a 15 minute boil but could do none at all.

I'm hoping to rock a Wet hop cascade IPA with homegrow cascade and Mint at the end of the summer, I did a version of it a couple years ago with store bought hops and it worked well.

I also rocked a English strong ale with peated malt that I then freeze distilled to about 16%.. It's a sipper, but it is a hell of a sipper..

I fell in love with craft beer. I started home brewing cause its awesome and I wanted to save money by not paying craft beer prices. Took me a few years to gain enough home brewing skills to say this, but now my beer consumption is like 80% home brew and only 20% commercial craft beer.
