I love barrel-aged beers as much as the next guy, but you have to acknowledge that they've simply gone a different direction. Like Highland, you can find them in most grocery stores not only in NC, but across the region. I don't see it as a fault that they haven't released a barrel-aged beer like everyone else.

Sure, I would welcome some new styles from them, but at the same time I think all of their core beers are solid and their seasonals are exemplary. Rather than wish they'd do something new, I'll simply take pleasure in the fact that I can find their beers all over the place and for a great price (in my opinion). I especially love their Porter, Milk Stout, Baltic Porter and Rabid Duck.

Now, their website could use some work. :stuck_out_tongue:

This exactly. The fact is, most breweries aren't paying the bills with one-offs and barrel-aged beers. Sure, I'd love to see barrel-aged Baltic Porter or some more experimental stuff more often, but I think they've made a business decision to focus on cranking out their flagship brands and not get side tracked with a barrel program. Their core line-up and seasonals are solid for the most part, but with the market becoming increasingly crowded, some of these just don't stand out. Yet, they must not be having any trouble selling enough of them. Most of their regular line-up recipes probably still date to before the NC alcohol cap was raised. Last year's infection problem definitely hurt, but it sounds like they have that under control now. I always look forward to the Schwarzbier and Baltic Porter every year.

Agreed. I was very disappointed when some of my favorites turned out to be infected, but I haven't had a bad bottle since. Can't believe I forgot the Schwarzbier, as it's a favorite of mine as well!

I agree with Handle and javincik that the value of DR lies in the quality of the beers that they produce in large volume and that those beers are readily available to a large distribution area. I appreciate you guys pointing that out because I think that speaks to what I believe the original discussion is centered on: that DR may not be the most suitable contributor to a collaborative BA beer.

If you're only 15 mins away from them then just go to the Brewery? you can get all their 6 pack offerings at the brewery. Also if you're lucky you may get to taste some barrel aged stuff. Trust me, I worked there. One friday we tapped a keg of Barrel aged baltic porter back in March.

I'm not sure that we get any Foothills. South Carolina is the closest I've seen their regular stuff.

What Sexual Chocolate that does make it to shelves are the leftovers from the release

Maybe they want to make it more of a locals event. You know, support those who support you everyday over those who swoop in once or twice a year to cherry pick?

Jade is AWESOME!!! I stop by Foothills everytime I am remotely close to the Triad for a couple growler fills. BASC release could easily get me to grab my Foothills growlers and head up 85 just to fill with more Jade. If I get a bottle then that is a bonus.

Interesting thought, too bad I come for the event and the bottle share. I guess I could just wait and trade for basc. Considering I got bottles last year for CCB shelf beers.

I'm going to agree with Gene. I want to know, so that I can request off if need be (I work every other weekend).
