I take ratings into account when I'm trying a brewery for the first time. I tend to go with one of their higher rated beers. As others have said, I'll also do it when I'm debating a couple of expensive options.

I think the only time I ever use a rating is if it's on a beer that costs over $18-20, then I use a combination or ratings and reviews before I decide if I want to drop the coin on it, usually though if its a beer I want to try, I just get it anyways, even if people seem to be down on it

I dont ever look at scores before buying beer. If anything it is stupid to not buy a beer you never tried before because of its score. Your taste could be different and might end up liking the beer.

I, too, am better than all of you who look at scores to before buying beer. I can't believe how many of you idiots use information like that as a tool to help you make a decision! I have unlimited amounts of money and calories to spend on beer so if it's not good I'll just go buy more. "Drink what you like." But never find out what you may like through information. Always trial and error. And pretty bottle labels.

Just kidding. Scores are a great indicator of quality and I respect the average opinion on this site. I don't have a minimum score for a beer purchase, but bashing people for using information to their advantage is pretty pretentious and stupid.

I have a few set beer styles that I am really into and most often will go with one of those. I never have really looked at the score when looking to try new beers. However, I do read reviews and compare them to what I like and am looking for. I feel that numbers can be skewed but descriptions offer me more information such as flavors I may like or hate. I will also often listen to suggestions and see how my opinion compares to the other persons.
