Both are good but god damn. Black Albert is one of the best stouts out there. I recently was reading a post on the nature of the beer scene and how hype effects everything. They discussed how 5-6 years ago, when Black Albert first made it's appearance state-side, you could not find the beer anywhere. Stores quickly sold out. Now, with all the new stuff out, you can find the beer accumulating dust in bottles shops everywhere. It's crazy

Was this 2010 OG or 2015 Rare? Because I thought 2010 was absolutely amazing and was a more intense BCBS. Tasted like bourbon-soaked dark chocolate. I have not cracked my bottle of 2015 yet, so we shall see where we stand with that one.

Regular ol' Big Black Voodoo Daddy is an absolute beast of stout on it's own. I don't foresee myself going to the release for BA variants any time soon, so I cannot compare the two

Big Foot is definitely better than its Barrel Aged version.

The 2015. I did love the box though.

I'm going with Tallgrass Buffalo Sweat > BA. I mean cmon! It doesn't add any depth for almost double the price! Also Xocoveza. I had charred and it was a musty muted mess! And I don't know what stout (BA or not) can top Expedition Stout!

You guys are bumming me out! I've never had any of their beers, but have a bottle of the BA and Maple BA in my fridge. A friend did say the regular BA was stellar.

As for IPAs, there is one exception, and it doesn't have a non BA version, Burton Baton.

I definitely prefer regular Arrogant Bastard over the oak aged version.

Other than that, the only one that comes close is Jack’s Abby Framinghammer. The barrel aged versions are awesome but the normal base beer is so gorgeous on its own it doesn’t need barrel character to impress.

I do think regular Bomb should be tried by all - it's delicious. Just wasn't a fan of BA Bomb at all. Now I need to get some Bomb on tap, as I've heard the raspberries really shine through there.

This. At least the 3 month aged one I had basically didn't taste like it'd been in barrels at all, but all the spices that I love were mellowed out. Would like to try the original version where they actually let it sit in barrels for some time (can't remember how long).

Tallgrass Buffalo Sweat. The barrel is too much for that beer to handle. To me it tastes like a boilermaker.

Old Rasputin is also better without the barrel.

To be honest the list of barrel aged beers I like is fairly short.

When I googled Backwoods Bastard, here's what Founders said:
"Founders puts Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale in bourbon barrels for a year to get this complex kick-back-sipper of a barrel aged beer."

I don't dislike BB; I just think the barrel covers up the DB.

Woah, to each their own, and I get how it covering up a beer you love could be a bummer, but I was just thinking yesterday how BB is one of the most amazing beers I've ever had (saw that Founders shipment hit my area, fantasizing that it was included).

I see what you're talking about in the google search, but when I hit the link the text is different and I can't find the quote. Not that its a big deal, I'll accept my shin kicking graciously.

Almost every regular beer is better than its barrel-aged version.

I know I'm repeating what has already been said by many, but I now feel much better.
