Also, in the OP's general sentiment:
    Julius > King Julius

Have had 12oz Bomb! on tap a couple of times. First time, it went down fast, then when the taptender asked if I wanted another I didn't hesitate. Then halfway through the second one I did the math on the ounces and ABV and figured out I would not be driving away anytime soon. Did not really note any raspberry flavor - didn't know it was supposed to have any, but it was excellent!

Interesting. All the notes I'd read about it before, and the folks drinking it on tap around me talked about the raspberry. When did you have it? I haven't had it myself though, so I can't chime in for sure.

Seems like it's all been mostly covered in this thread but I'll add a local example: Nantahala Choc Covered Cherry Stout>Nantahala BBA Choc Covered Cherry Stout.

Darkness all the way. Much better non-BA. (Although BA Darkness is still delicious)

I had it January 15th. The Prairie Artisan Ales site says "Bomb! is an imperial stout aged on espresso beans, chocolate, vanilla beans, and ancho chile peppers.". None of their current variants mention it either.

Bomb does not have raspberry in it. This is fact.

Old rasputin is way better withoit the barrel I think

Probablly a lot of disagreement on this, but I think that regular monsters park is better than any of the BA variants I had

Very interesting. I guess people were pulling my leg. Thought I read it on here first though.... Damn.

With you on the FBS, Yeti, and Stone IRS, but BA imperial biscotti break is heavenly!

Exceptions are Doom and BA Ephraim; delicious!

BA Bigfoot with a year on it is sublime. WAY better than regular Bigfoot IMO.

Couldn't disagree more. I like Black Albert, but Cuvee Delphine is amazing.

Both are great beers, and I was so surprised Cuvee Delphin is BA version of Black Albert since IMO, they were so different. I love the Black Albert because the Belgian kinda flavor is so well mixed with Imperial Stout, full of black fruits!

That has been my experience with Double Negative and BA Double Negative. Had full pours back-to-back. Could not tell a difference. Can't comment on the Maple version. I've only had a taste at a festival.

Also, Bomb! is excellent by itself. I like BA Bomb slightly more although they are basically even. Fred's Blend is superior to regular though IMO. (My ratings on this site do not reflect these comments as I had regular Bomb when I was just getting into beer and I had the variants much more recently).

Founders Imperial Stout is better than a lot of barrel-aged Imperial Stouts. But as far as same beer barrel-aged vs non, I can't think of any.

    +1

I'll drink BA, like them, but so far always prefer the non-BA versions. Personal preference. I'm not a big liquor person, but will drink and try to enjoy it - I just like to keep that taste/flavors separate from my beer. For those that like those flavors, then enjoy!

Same here. I'll enjoy them from time to time, but it's just as a little something different.
