I would smash the bottle on the ground...scream WTF and then storm out immediately. With all kidding aside, if I were offered a regular lager or ale in a bottle, I would shut the f@#k up and enjoy it. If I were offered a bottle of Cantillon, I would shut the f@#k up and enjoy it but not before giving them a perplexed look. For full disclosure, I once went to a Lost Abbey barrel night dinner with a bottle of Matt that I drank straight out of the bottle while alternating between that and samples of Veritas 006, which was kind of douchey in retrospect.

Ask for a glass and then wonder about the dichotomy. Craft Beer:No Glass. Doesn't seem right.

Normal practice around here is to bring a fresh glass every time you order a beer. Period. Even if it's the same kind. In WI they can be a little slow in some parts.

Ask for a glass in a snide, douche nozzle tone and give a dirty look.

Haha didn't read all of this thread but if the bar doesn't accomodate with a glass it is certainly the type of place where glass cleanliness might also be "forgotten". Do not ask for a glass. Wipe the crown and drink from the bottle is my advice, use sanitizer around the rim if you can.

You ask for a glass like a real BA, not in a douchey way like some of you would, but we're out there to educate, never hurts to ask for a glass I'd imagine most places would comply and grab you one without hesitation. Some of these people who work in restaurants with craft beer don't know any better, I'd come back to a bar if they didn't know to give me a glass or not with my bottle of beer, kind of silly that anyone wouldn't go back just based on the glassware provided or lack there of...but that's just me!

I had trois pistoles right from the bottle at old chicago because they brought me a damned long island ice tea style glass to drink out of. It still tasted good. I habitually drink odell ipa from the bottle, as well as ten fidy from the can, and both are still amazing that way. I actually find the odell ipa has more hop flavor out of the bottle simply because there is no rush of co2 to scrub out the flavor and aromas. At the end of the day, we gotta do what makes us happy, and I do find a lot of ba's need to chill out with the beer **** shit and just enjoy the product. So what if you were served your iipa in a shaker pint? So what if you weren't offered a glass at all? So what if your server didn't pass their cicerone? A lot of ba's think that beer should revolve around their personal tastes and preferences and it is simply ego that dictates this. Bring your own tulip next time, pay for your own cicerone test, that way you'll be prepared to answer your own questions about beer and have the "right" glass for the job. Sorry about the rant, but someone had to say it.

I'd simply say "May I also have a glass please?"

Guess what - I've done that MANY times and nothing bad has ever happened. Can people REALLY be so socially awkward as to not be able to make a request such as that?

For those who then state "They probably don't have the proper glassware either" - explain to me how drinking direct from the bottle is still preferable than drinking from an improper glass? How does that make the bottle the "preferable" choice?

I had a waitress bring me an IPA and a frozen glass to serve it in. I asked her for a room temp glass instead.

I'm a big fan of Tony B and one thing I've gotten is that in many countries they will offer you whatever they have. You would be a bad guest to refuse anything be it food drink or a gift.I guess that idea applies whether in a bar or in someones home.Be nice.

At home I drink from pint glasses.I don't have any tulips etc.Sometimes if at someones house I will ask for a glass. But sometimes it means a red solo cup.To me it's still better than drinking from the bottle.JMHO.

The new Swiss Army Knives now come with a beer glass attachment. I just carry that, problem solved. Plus while I am drinking, I can clip my nails.

I assume you talking about a guy handing you a beer, say thanks and drink it as is. Keep your glass at home or ask for one at a bar. Bad manners to insult a guy giving you a beer.
