so now we're equating drinking beer from a bottle to being forced to eat with your hands? (without a napkin to wipe the juice dribbling down your chin...)

At a bar and it's a beer I've never had before? Sure, I'll ask for a glass. If it's something I've had and/or drink on a regular basis...the bottle/can is fine with me.

At someone's house? Thanks for the beer, no matter the vessel. Free beer is free beer.

No, we're comparing asking for a glass to asking for any other any other item from a host to enjoy what was offered. It's not complaining.

I have no issues drinking out of bottles...I prefer a glass sure but if someone hands me a beer out by the grill I'm drinking it as is and I'm not asking for a tulip.

Sometimes I swear we take this shit too seriously.

Most of the time I think it's an unintentional oversight that they don't give you a glass. I just politely ask for a glass. It hasn't been a problem asking. If I know I'm in a situation where there are no glasses then, of course, I wouldn't ask and drink out of the bottle.

Not seen that happen at any beer bar I been to in a long time. Still I never order bottle of anything, unless I want to be price *****.

The only additional insight I can give on this that hasn't already been covered is my favorite local beer bar sometimes will sell someone a bomber or 750mL without giving a glass. It's like "Wtf am I supposed to do with this?" It hasn't happened to me personally yet but has happened to friends of mine. Including the first time I went there when my girlfriend ordered a bottle of Cantillon Classic Gueuze... Yeah she had to ask for a glass after being given an open bottle of Cantillon. Boggles my mind.

I've seen that happen at only a few places. One bar had recently been bought out but the place stayed the same on the inside as well as the staff. the new owner brought in a pretty decent bottle selection with some new "fancy" glassware as the old staff called it. they were confused on why people needed glassware let alone different sorts of fancy glass. I have BMC drinking friends that say - my beer already comes in a glass. uhg.

Four pages of replies to this one...wow. Sorry, but this is a little ridiculous.
