Tolerance is the key. I can drop two bombers of >10% in a night before work with no issues. That might be a bad thing though.

I have a Bolt Cutter that has stared me down a couple times. If I stay in New Year's Eve then , maybe? The downside is that for that much alcohol I could taste several beers.

I almost always reserve those for sharing. If I cannot find someone to share with, I will reseal the bottle and drink it the next day, typically tastes fine.

Yes I drink the whole thing, and do this with just about any new beer I have. Often though if it's a style I know my wife likes she has some, but for the most part I consume it all.

However, I usually eat something/during/before afterwards, and more importantly don't slam the thing in say 30 minutes. Take your time with it, drink it over the course of a few hours and your fine so long as you are not going anywhere then you will be fine.

If you need to take a break, there is nothing wrong with recapping/stopping it and putting it back in the fridge to tackle later in the day, or attack sometime tomorrow, although that beer will not be the same once you open it and let it sit around.

Off topic, why does every thread have a "this has already been talked about" post. Who cares? Maybe this guy/gal wants to revisit the topic.

On topic, I don't have a problem drinking a 750Ml bottle by myself. I feel like most of us on BA drink a descent amount of beer, and can handle the ABV. I corked a 22oz. of Oak Aged Yeti and drank it the next night, with no noticeable difference though. So that is an option IMO.

I will open a big ABV 750 if I do not plan on going anywhere and just relaxing around the house. And I take all afternoon to savor it.

My capacity for drinking alcohol is pretty high, I don't have any issues drinking a bomber regardless of ABV as long as I don't have to drive.

About to do this tomorrow night with a long-aging bottle of Sweet Repute. If I can't finish it, I use a handy-dandy rubber stopper which keeps it nice and carbed until the next night.

Too bad you're in CA. I have a bottle of Speedway Stout in my cellar and it will stay there until I find someone to drink it with. Planning a vaca soon?

I generally won't open a bottle unless I plan on finishing it. That being said, if I were to come across something I couldn't finish in one sitting I'd figure it's more about the intensity of flavor rather than a strictly high alcohol percentage. Last night I had a half-growler of 10.3% IPA, and that went down pretty easily over a few hours, so some styles don't really make me think twice about that kind of thing regardless of how strong they are.

I usually drink the whole thing if it's the only beer I'm having. If I've had others, I try to share with a neighbor or something.

    THIS.

As long as it ain't hoppy, a day in the fridge with a wine stopper won't do it much harm.

Shit, I cork 12 ounce bottles on occasion.

    Last example was AveryTweak.
It's 17.8 ABV, really tasty and super expensive ($15 out the door)
I drank about 7 ounces, my wife had 2 ounces.
I figured I'd save the last 3 ounces for a treat at the end of the next night.

Ended up that I didn't get to it until 2 days later.
Didn't matter much - it was still fantastic.

If I plan to open a bomber, I also plan ahead to have plenty of time to drink the entire bottle. No rush, no hurry, just enjoy. It almost becomes a celebration in itself. For my "normal" drinking pleasure, I pour a pint from the home unit (Grand Teton's Bitch Creek typically on tap), but a bomber or 750ml is something to enjoy on its own. But I always drink the whole bottle in the same day its opened.

I don't open a beer unless I feel confident I can finish it, which usually isn't an issue, even with big bottles of high abv. Worst case scenario I'm a little tipsy when I'm done.

I am also in a position where I don't always have someone to share with. I definitely do not want to finish a 12+% bomber by myself; I just don't drink that much, or want to. Back before I learned that I loved craft beer I use to drink Merlot. I bought a bottle insert that has a little hand "pump" that sucks the air out of a bottle, letting you enjoy the wine for a couple days with almost no difference in taste. Now I use it on unfinished bombers. I always finish them the next day, and don't notice any degradation. Here's a link if anyone is interested...

Hmmm. 10.3% you say? Would that half growler have been filled with Epitome, by any chance?

Not everyone. Like many have said, tolerance plus drinking it slowly and I'm not hurting at all. Yay me!
