When making the trip back to NE Ohio, as per a recommendation here, Save-On in Mentor (I believe) left me feeling like a kid in a candy store. I was able to find Thirsty Dog's Wulver, Revolution beers and the like (hard or impossible to obtain in Michigan). Prices were pretty low and the service was the best I've had. It was my first trip and I was told what was 'behind the counter' and they topped it off by carrying things out to my car (absolutely unnecessary but the gesture will never be forgotten).

I miss Finger Lakes Beverage Center. My gf went to school near there for three years so one her bi-monthly visits back to Massachusetts she would always stop there and load up a box of stuff we can't get down here.

I live basically across from Kiki's, so I frequent Brighton Gourmet and Martignetti's. Brighton Gourmet doesn't move enough product for me to buy IPAs there, but I've probably bought 5 or 6 Pretty Thing's Barbapapa from them, and other things that age well. Never been to Walsh, though, how's their selection?

I think the owner might have some sort of feud going with a distributor because they seem to be running low on stock lately, but until recently it's been about as extensive as Brighton Gourmet, though with different options. I can always find something I'm happy to drink at either store. I've never had a problem with IPA freshness at Brighton Gourmet, but I'm willing to drink most of 'em two or three months out.

(I wish Kiki's sold beer; they'd probably stock lots of British bitters and milds.)

Jungle Jim's is by my work too. Great place. Another great one in Cincinnati that's by my house is Jeff's Marathon. You wouldn't expect it to have a great selection since it's a gas station, but they have a lot of stuff. They even have a decent international selection. I was really surprised by that.

Thanks! I've never gone to that one, but hear great things all the time. I have been to the Oak Lawn location a few times.

My favorite spot is my basement...always 4 homebrews on tap and unlimited growler fills :slight_smile: I brew 95+% of the beer my wife and i drink, but if I'm actually going to buy bottles, it's usually a sour at Wicked Weed in Asheville NC. I'll go to Wall of Beer in Clemson SC or The Community Tap in Greenville SC, if I'm close by, and check their selection from time to time as well. I may buy a six-twelve pack a month at the most...it's way too easy to brew whatever I want for a lot cheaper than buying bottles and growlers.

It's so funny that you say that. I had considered pinpointing the location in my original post, but the truth is everyone in this area considers ourselves part of western mass, and further west we call the berkshires. Central Mass would be worcester to us here. I knew it was coming. Valid point. I head out that way occasionally for work, i'm going to make sure to check out those spots.

Hop City in Atlanta, which is just a 15-minute walk from my office at Georgia Tech. Owner Kraig Torres has done a yeoman's job of advancing beer retail in this city, and the staff are the greatest group of folks. They're not just retailers, but friends.

Beyond that, I'm also a regular of Sprayberry Bottle Shop in East Cobb, where I live. Brij Patel may be something of a character, but he wouldn't have it any other way. He's done a lot to further the cause of good beer in Marietta/East Cobb.

Wegman's might not have any whales, but let me tell you I have been more than happy with them. Good, quality beer--all of the major Founders, Bells, Troegs, Sierra Nevada, Samuel Adams, Ithaca, Southern Tier, Sixpoint, Stone, Ballast Point, etc--and at the best prices. Where else can I get a six-pack of Sierra Nevada Torpedo for $8.49?
